Is it ok to put topfin aquarium salt in a cichlid tank?

It reduces stress and stuff. It's for fresh and saltwater tanks.

Yes, but regular rock salt for water softeners is the same stuff and much cheaper.

Yes you can, they will do well with it. The rock salt five speed mentioned is a good choice as well. Personally I like Kosher salt. It's very pure and priced in between the aquarium salt and water softener salt.
