I have a goldfish that I got from walmart yesterday. I have been trying to keep things quiet and calm for him so he can more easily adjust. The problem is that he is stuck in a fish bowl (one gallon:() till i can get to the next town and find him a ten gal tank. I have been reading and seen some suggestions that a goldfish bowl that size should have a water change every day to keep ammonia levels low. I think this sounds like a good idea but i am afraid of causing him all the stress of netting him out every day and subjecting him to the shock of the new water every day as that could easily kill him too. What should i do??!

This isn't a fish question....but "fish" people lol know alot about water quality & how to fix it so thought I'd ask here :)

My dogs have a kiddie pool. When I first got it, the water stayed clear for about 4 days, NOW (a few months down the road) the water turns a icky green color in the matter of a day or two. I am constantly having to dump the $$$$$ water out & refill it, I've trid even doing "water changes" as same principal as a tank rofl. Its in the shade & only gets the afternoon sun. I have scrubbed it with soap a million times & rinsed it out. Even tho I set out a fresh bucket of water for them.....the pooches prefer to drink out of it (especially if they wade in it). Is there anything I can do about this? I thought perhaps someone with an outdoor pond might also have this problem and have some ideas. Thanks!!!

I have male betta(red color) and he already had his small nest build. I bought a female betta(blue color) today and was
observing closely.. Male betta definetely reacted to this.. and showed his typical male aggressiveness.. He started chasing female betta and chase went on for a while. Surprisingly female betta attacked and destroyed his nest. This was definetely not an accident. She had her eye on this nest and when she got chance she just attacked the nest destroying it completely. Can someone throw some light on this and tell me why would she do that? Does this mean female is not ready to mate? Male betta again went back to his nest busy rebuilding and this time he made it bigger than what he had before.. !!!
Not he is back chasing female betta.. But now I put partition between both of them. I know male can kill female sometimes..
Any tips highly appreciated.. :)

Thanx
Trushar

Please no online sites. Looking for a store that would have one. It has to be a long. It's for a hermit crab, so no extra height is needed. Any help is appreciated.

Since it sprouted from the bulb - its been growing like crazy. I'm assuming the fish like it because they are always nipping at it... But how can I tame it ? Should I cut it ? Its got these 2 long string type pieces that have grown up to the top of the water and there are so many leaves. Its crazy!

This morning when I went to petsmart we saw one of my dad's friends, who also has fish tanks, and he was buying a very cool little creature. It was about an inch and a half around, brownish black, and sucking on the bag. When I asked him what it was he said it was an octo something another. It was round and kinda looked like an octopus but without legs. I know it isn't an octopus so anyone know what it was?

Hello-- I have two oranda goldfish. I observe them daily. The bigger of the two lost almost all of the scales on one side of his back (it seems like overnight). There is one small sucker fish, a Siamese Algae Eater (not a pleco), who has been in the tank for a few months now. They are the only fish in the tank.
Other than the scale loss, my fish seems fine. No gulping or floating at the top so I don't think he has the bladder problem I have read about. He can swim fine and doesn't float up uncontrollably.
I just want to make sure I don't need to separate him from the other goldfish or do something for him. Could it be from breeding? I am unsure of their sexes. They have two little ceramic bridges in their tank but those have been in there from the start (since January 2007 when I got them). Is this rapid scale loss normal? Thanks in advance!!
