I have a goldfish that I got from walmart yesterday. I have been trying to keep things quiet and calm for him so he can more easily adjust. The problem is that he is stuck in a fish bowl (one gallon:() till i can get to the next town and find him a ten gal tank. I have been reading and seen some suggestions that a goldfish bowl that size should have a water change every day to keep ammonia levels low. I think this sounds like a good idea but i am afraid of causing him all the stress of netting him out every day and subjecting him to the shock of the new water every day as that could easily kill him too. What should i do??!

Please get a 10 gallon tank for that poor guy as soon as possible
you can do partial waterchanges, but I wouldn't take him out every day because that will cause to much stress and you will most likely kill him with that
If you have a gravelsiphon do Partial waterchanges of 25% every other day and test your ammonia also about every other day

If you don't have a gravelsiphon you can use a turkey baster, but before you use it you need to wash it with hot water that no bad bacteria can get into your bowl

Hope that helps
Good luck

In a 1 gallon bowl, I would change the water every 2-3 days. In a 10 gallon tank, 15% twice a week, or 25-30% once a week should be good until your tank cycles. Just be aware of the signs of ammonia and nitrite poisoning (gasping for air, lethargy, loss of appetite).

it somewhat is a good option to get the Nitrates around 5ppm the day you go away. in spite of the indisputable fact that, i think of you will possibly desire to do an test and attempt daily for a million week on the Nitrates to confirm how rapidly they upward push. you do not % the Nitrates at 0 because of the fact this might reason a dent interior the cycle so 5 ppm is nice. If something, sparkling the gravel with a gravel vac as thoroughly as plausible over here couple of days as this might take out any extra meals and wastes which will help save those Nitrates low for a mutually as. If something, have a chum come with the aid of interior the middle of the week do do a 50% water substitute in basic terms in case (in case you could). EDIT: Danielle Z, vegetation in undemanding terms particularly are available reachable while there is somewhat some them in a tank. you will possibly desire to bear in mind that the asker has a 10 gallon tank with 2 Goldfish in it so it is not unknown that the Nitrates are going to upward push besides except the tank is amazingly heavily planted. some vegetation are not somewhat going to play a huge roll on protecting those tiers down.

My daughter "rescued" a goldfish from the fountain at prom. That was five years ago. That same fish stills lives in the same one gallon max fish bowl at the edge of the kitchen sink. My husband drains all but the last of the old water out, grabs up the fish, empties the remaining water and quickly refills the bowl with clean tap water. No muss. No fuss.

The cat gets a paw in there once in a while. It's a pretty chaotic kitchen. Most important is the quality of your water. We have a well here in Michigan so the gold fish is not subjected to chlorinated, florinated, chemically treated municipal water. THAT is the key.

you should be fine with cleaning it once a week. That's what I did before i got a bigger tank with a filter.

or what you can also do is pour out some of the water from the bowl while the fish is in there, and pour in some new water every few days or so.
make sure to keep the water clean by not over-feeding him.

do it every other day or every 3 days. i had guppies and i changed their water every 2 days but i had a 2 gallon tank. every month you should take the fish and put it in a bowl and SCRUB the whole tank. DONT GET A TEN GALLON FOR 1 FISH GO NO BIGGER THEN 5 FOR 1 FISH AND EVEN 2
