Is this too big of a tank?

2007-07-30 18:09:20 · 9 answers · asked by Sunshine1 3

My 10 gallon tank is set up (has been for a couple of weeks). I am finally ready to get two mickey mouse platys to start with (then add two more in a couple of weeks). Even with my heater on the lowest setting, the temperature is 78 degrees. I know some web sites list the temperature for playties as high as 82, but others list temps much lower. Is 78 degrees too warm? I may need a new heater that goes lower.
Also, if I am starting with two platys, what gender? Also, I am not interested in breeding more fish. Should I get all females? all males (likely not a good idea, but thought I'd ask) ? or will they be unhappy if not mixed gender??

I have a five gallon fish tank and I already have two damsels. I wanted to add a clownfish but I don't know if three fish would be too much. Do you think it will be ok? The Damsels don't even swim that much.

but has more of a bulging belly! Which one should I put into the breeder tank first? I haven't had either guppy for more than 3 weeks, so I am not sure when their last birth was. I am really confused on this, as I have looked at different websites and pictures. So either the one with the black spot, but slender, or the one with the gray spot and bulging?? Please help!

Lately my goldfish has just been sitting at the bottom of the tank. It looks like he's dead but when I feed him he swims right back to the top. But he struggles to stay at the top of the water so he just sinks back down like a stone? What could possibly be wrong with him?

I currently have a 45 gallon freshwater tank with about four small to med size African Cichlids. I have found another home for the fish, and I want to convert my tank to brackish water and house two green spotted or figure eight puffers. Since the water is already cycled and in good condition, can I just add marine salt to make it brackish? Or do I need to clean out the tank and start all over?
