I have a five gallon fish tank and I already have two damsels. I wanted to add a clownfish but I don't know if three fish would be too much. Do you think it will be ok? The Damsels don't even swim that much.

I would not recommend it. How long has your tank been running?

I have to agree with copperhead a 5 gallon tank is way to small. Another thing is damsels are normally active swimmers so something must be up with your water parameters. Clownfish on the other hand tend to be much less active so assuming you upgrade to a larger tank which is highly recomended and you are looking for a more active fish than a clownfish may not be the fish you are looking for. If you get a larger tank and want to see the fish being more active get a 30 gallon tank and do a dwarf angel of some sort. some pretty ones i really like are the rusty angels the flame angles and the ever so popular coral beauty angel. Another pretty fish that will be more active will be a 6 line wrasse or a fairy wrasse. Im assuming you saw finding nemo and thats what made you want the clownfish but if you think of the movie and how they like thier anemones it holds true in a sense. they will pick a spot in your tank and virtually claim it thier own and wont really swim around to far out of thier spot unless feeding. hope this helps and good luck

You need a larger tank to keep the damsels - on the order of a 20 gallon - these can get 3-6 inches each, depending on the species. Damsels (and the saltwater fish in general) are territorial and aggressive - as yours grow up, one will likely kill the other in a tank your size. They are also more sensitive to water quality than freshwater fish, and that's probably why your fish are acting as they are. You should test the tank water (or have a store do it for you) because the ammonia and nitrite levels are probably very high since you don't have much water volume to dilute these.

If you want to add a clownfish, your tank should be at least a 20 gallon long, if not a 30 gallon. Since clowns and damsels are related, they may not get along well as adults.

Please reconsider the size of your tank - it will be very hard to keep fish alive in a saltwater tank that size.

no, honestly two damsels is way to much, for fish a 20g is the minimium i would recommend for fish. that being said i ma now going to contridcit my self and say try a small goby, clown, neon, ect and try that, soory but saltwater doesnt hold as much oxygen as freshwater. and only one of those

no....... saltwater fish grow to be a nice size the five gallon is stopping their growth. you're missing out on their full potential.
