Danios do this all the time. So do black Tetras. A lot of little community fish do. This is normal. The problem is they need to school and 2 is not a school. 4-5 of the same type and they will play with each other, but not one will be singled out. Make sure you have ample decor so they can hide and rest too.

Sounds like you have mickey mouse platys. They may be mating. You can tell if you have a male and female fairly easily. The bottom fin close to the tail comes to a long point in a male: http://fish.orbust.net/images/male2.jpg but is shaped like a triangle in a female: http://fish.orbust.net/images/female.jpg

If you have one of each, expect some babies in about a month.

If you have two males, they may be trying to figure out between them whichis the "boss" in the tank. They shouldn't really hurt each other, and the chasing will stop once the sort things out.

take both fish out, do a 50% water change, remove the decor around,

put the fish back in and the chasing will probably stop
