I'm having trouble locating a betta breeder that's somewhat local to me. In a few months I'm planning to get a small collection of fancy bettas (not the sort you see in the pet store) for some small tanks I'm setting up.

I've checked aquabid, and I see a lot of very pretty bettas...in Thailand. If I can avoid dealing with a transhipper I'd like to, and I'd also prefer to get all my bettas (4-6) from the same source.

If you can provide any useful links it would be much appreciated. I'm in Central California and I am still willing to ship or drive if the fish are somewhat local. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I'm not anywhere near the coast so checking pet stores out there hoping for the best might not work.

I have checked bettatalk, but she tends to only sell in pairs and wants a bit more than I'd want to pay for a pet fish.

Some of the highest quality bettas in the world come from International Betta Congress Breeders. While individual members are not listed onthe wabsite, here's a list of chapters:
http://www.ibcbettas.org/chapters.htm

Start with the chapter(s) nearest you and work your way back. No doubt CBS in San Jose will be the closest to you, excellent club with great members. No doubt just a few phone calls will get you exactly what you are looking for both in color and selection. Most of the top breeder members know each other and if they don't have what you want they can usually tell you who will.

On a side note, CBS will be hosting the IBC International convention and show this year in mid September. They will have a HUGE auction at which you can probably get the fish youwant for a more than fair price. The show will be in San Jose and the Info will be on the CBS website.

california is what i like to call betta central, as you get alot of oversea bettas that stop over in cali before they get shipped off, so try checking petstores b the coast.

but did u try bettatalk.com , faith is in cali and she has great bettas.

also check out this breeder who uses the name petfish on aquabid.

i believe in cali, they have good looking bettas.
