not really, only if you know exactly what your doing, have a lot of money in the first place, have alot of time, alot of space, and know everything their is to know about fish.

You will have to know the right people, know the places, know business.

Basically becuase their are probably hundreds of thousands of people who want to breed fish for alot of money, only to find that they broke even or even lost money.

This is becuase their are so many people and not all of the new guys know enough about fish to get by.

Breeding, common fish will not make money, while they are 3-4 dollars in the petstore, i get them at wholesale for .10 cents

Thats how much fishes are really worth in some cases.

The only way to make money is to breed the right fishes.

Highly prized flowerhorns, arowanas, the "new in fish"

So yes there is a good living breeding fish, but it is hard to do, will take years and you must pay your dues.

Yes, without a doubt. BUT, it takes more than just the ability to maintain an aquarium or two and usually more space than just a few dozen aquariums. In college that's how I and 3 friends made all of our rent and grocery money, breeding Bettas. Ever since then my hobby has paid for itself with the fish I breed and sell with a bit left over, sometimes a little sometimes more, but it's not to be taken lightly.

I would suggest anyone interested in such to take at least 1-2 introductory courses in Fisheries Sciences or Aquaculture.

There are many people that make a bit of extra money breding fish, but few enough that actually make a living at it other than on large fish farms, but it can at is done.

my younger brother did he started off with a couple of the cheaper breeds and sold the young back to the pet shop in exchange for the more expensive breeds and built up his stock that way

unfortunately he had a couple of toddlers in the house who liked to fiddle with buttons on the heater while he wasn't looking and after cleaning his tank etc and switching it back on he boiled all his stock except for a guppy mum and 500 babies they wiped out 5 months 5 Min's so he doesn't keep tropical fish anymore so if you have small children be care full to check your heaters etc

Yes there is real money in it, but not without investing huge sums of money and long hours of hard work. The fish farmers here in Florida work very hard to make a living. Most hobbiests are lucky to get enough store credit to cover the food.

Depends on where you live, If you need to heat the tanks then the answer is "not really" If you can provide a hot environment for free and already have the facilities then you ahve a chance. Your best bet is to source them cheaply and sell them at a premium.

You will first need a male guppy to get things rolling. I would suggest getting a breeding net for the inside of your aquarium. When a pregnant female guppy`s belly gets big and full and her gravid spot is large and dark, separate her from the others and put her into the breeding net. Make sure the fry have plenty of places to hide or the mother will eat them (guppies are live bearers so they have live fry). After she is finished ( they can have up to 100+ fry ), put her back in with the other fish immediately. Feed the fry crushed baby brine shrimp, crushed flake, and crushed up blood worms when first born. After the fry get a little bigger, you can get them a separate tank to grow up in, or raise them in the breeding net until they are big enough that they do not fit in the adults mouths. Good Luck!!

Agreed. I worked out a deal with my LFS and they give me like a dollar of store credit for every 10 livebearers i bring in. Its a sucky deal, but it adds up. I don't think i'll ever make a profit on this though.
