We have chlorinated water. We also have a beta fish. He lives in a fish bowl with a plant. The last time I changed his water; I let it sit over night before I put him in it. I was just wondering how long water needs to sit before it is safe for a fish?

I put all 10 in at once and he chaces them around eating one every now and then. In about 24-30 hours there all gone.

How many guppys and/or ghost shrimp = 1 feeding time?

Okay, what would be the best Fish(s) for a 29 Gallon heated tank? Well planted and decorated, not real plants though? Any help is appreaciated, thanks!

I used little rocks as substrate for my small tank, and everytime i feed my fish some of the flakes get lodged in the bottom in between the rocks. I use a siphon to clean what i can but there are some that get left behind.

I heard that it was not a good idea to move the rocks around, is that true?

Also, i am thinking about changing the substrate with sand. How should I go about doing this?

I have a 10 gallon tank with 4 guppies. 2 female and 2 male. I'm hoping the females will have babies.

What are some low cost, hardy, water plants that will provide a place for guppy fry to hide? It would be great if they didn't require too much light. I recently got a Java Fern for my tank but it's leaves constantly fell off which created waste.

How full should my 3-gallon tank be? It's about 10 x 10 x 6 in... It's a stupid question, I know, but my mother thinks that I should check so I don't mess up our tank.

So... I haven't added ANY new rocks, plants, live food (such as ghost shrimp or feeder guppies),or even fish since last October. The ONLY thing that has EVER been different but yet consistant is the food that we DO feed them. Some sort of flakes recommended by the petstore for MOST of our fish... and green algie chips for that jurassic sucker fish. I think the snails may have come from those chips.... My fiancee STILL thinks I'm nuts.

What do you think NOW?

So as many of you may have read, I recently bought a 29 gallon FW tank. I still have my 10 gal. FW set up with the fish I plan to switch over to the 29. My dad said I should keep the 10 gallon up and running as a "quarantine" tank; when new fish are purchased, I would keep them in the ten gallon for 14 days in order to be sure they are healthy. Then, after this quarantine period, I would transfer them into the 29! Is this a great idea, or am I just loco? *Thats crazy for those non- espanol speakers*

mine are either gently bullying each other or playing sometimes. there not making any marks on each other, and theyre both eating fine. does anyones play around like this? or should i watch for physical damage if they are bullying. my african cichlids bully each other way worse if theyre not playing.

also, my tank is only 3 weeks old, ten gallon, please dont tell me its too small, my fish store has even a 1gallon salt tank with one damsel, as well as even a 12 gallon with a dwarf lionfish and they even keep seahorses.
mine has 20lbs live sand, and only 5lbs live rock so far, all nutrisea live water with Reverse osmosis water for top offs. salinity i keep around 1.022 and temp around 77-78. i also have 5 hermit crabs for cleanup crew (so far)
i tested my water and the ammonia wasnt dangerous, but the guy said i should change 20percent of my water so i did. is the ammonia increase just because my tank is new? or is two clown s too much a bioload for a ten gallon?

I feed my betta 4 betta bites in the morning nd a freeze dried bloodworm at night.(i break it in half b/c he can't fit a whole one in his mouth). once a week instead of giving him a bloodworm, i give him a cooked pea w/ the skin peeled off. He doesn't like the pea 2 much, so he only eats about 1/4-1/3 of the pea. (The pea is to prevent constipation.) I do not starve him once a week b/c when i do this he becomes extremely unactive and "depressed" like. Anyway, his belly (only the part under his gills)is a little puffy................am i overfeeding my betta?

Alright... I'm NOT a fish expert but I've been maintaining the same aquarium for over the last ten years... not the same fish, though. Oh yeah, there've been fatalities over the years in that aquarium... mistakes to some. I like to call it... experience.

You'll be happy to know that there are far fewer casualties than when I first took over the responsibility of the aquarium and our oldest fish is about 8 years old... give or take since I don't know how old it was when we brought it home. It... a jurassic looking, scum sucking thing of a sucker fish. The heartiest of fish I've tried to keep alive.

Okay... so here's the thing. Nothing to do with fish really except that they reside in the tank... and now so do these itty bitty snail looking creatures. It's seems as if there are hundreds of them and they also seem to have just appeared over night.

Can anyone confirm that they may have come from their food? My boyfriend thinks I'm absurd. Feedback, please?

Ok. I have two angel fish (freshwater) one is pure silver while the other one is silver with a little bit of black.. they're really agressive so we put a barrier between them.

Just recently the pure silver one has gotten really fat, she's blown up like a balloon and while the other one is getting more narrow and whatnot, she's very wide.

What could be wrong with her? Please help...
