When Betta's make bubble nests it means that the fish is healthy and happy in his environment. A male blows the bubble nest. Males tend to have long flowing fins. Females have shorter fins and has a egg spot. The egg spot is a white dot, located near the base of the ventrals. It is from this egg spot that eggs will be released by the female during spawning. Alot of people say females are dull and ugly, apparently they have never seen any. I have 2 beautiful females. One is a vibrant red and the other is a marbled pastel with different colors.

i'm not sure if the air bubbles mean anything, but usually you can only buy the males and they have really long fins and are very vibrant colors. The females have shorter fins and are a duller color. you probably have a male though.

Sometimes this may be an issue with air supply. If it is gulping air from the waterline try an air pump. Also it may be chemicals in the water that the fish is not used to. There are alot of things that this could be. I personaly (if really invested in the animal) would ask a vet.
