How can I find out how large my tank is? I scored a big tank of Freecycle today, with the hood, light, decor and everything. She said she thought it was a 20 gallon, but imo it looks larger. I want to say its a 29 gallon, but I dont know for sure. Either way, I love it, it was exactly what I was looking for, and best of all....it was free!

Measurements:

30 inches length
13 inches width
12 inches in height

Anyone know?

What does the itch disease for the fish look like? I just bought an angelfish last night. She is white and small. She appears to be healthy to me! She is eating and swimming around but I did notice on her tail she has a white dot. Its not off the skin or anything. I just am a new fish owner and worried that something could be wrong. What do you think?

put some thing like a stress coating ( i think its called) in water with them or something like cycle, says its good to add when adding new fish. Was wondering if this was just a marketing thing trying to get our money.

I have had my tank for about a year and a half, and had the same fish in there for about a year. I have a bunch of barbs (Tiger, Albino, Green, and Rosy), 2 Gouramis, 1 bottom feeder, and 1 large Alge eater (got him as a medium).
I have a couple of those logs with fake plants on them in there and about 7 or 8 fake plants. The plants are getting some black stuff on them and that really bothers me. Whenever I clean the tank I take them out and get some of the stuff of but I can't get it all anymore. I am considering putting some real plants in. Should I do it? Can I leave the logs in, if I take the fake plants off of them? How much do I have to care for real plants? Do I have to get anything else to make sure the plants grow? Are barbs known to eat the real plants?
I would also like to add some sand to my gravel to make it look a little better, as I have seen in my brother-in-laws tank. Is that a good idea?
Should I take all the fish out whenever I add the sand and possibly real plants?

I have used Cycle when my tank was new and it worked great Was wondering if you should still use it when you do water changes. or when you add new fish like the bottle say. I know some people dont belive in useing it at all. Thats not what i want to know. I want to know if it really needs to be use at ever water change or when you add new fish.

Right now I only have two rosy barbs in it. I don't want to over populate the tank. Could I add more rosy barbs? Or could I add some Danios? If so what would be a good number to add? New to the fish thing so any info would be welcomed. I have had the tank for about a month and the barbs are doing great.

The guy told me that although he can get to be up to 20 inches long... if the tank is small enough he won't outgrow it. The guy at the pet store said that he would grow in respects to the size of the tank. I only have a 10 gal tank. Although the guy told me he wouldn't outgrow it (he wouldn't get any bigger than room would allow), I'm nervous that maybe the guy was wrong. Anyone know anything about this? Will he truely stay small enough for my tank, or will I have to find him a new home?

i understand that the amount of salt is approx, i tablespoon per 5 gallons of water , thats all fine and dandy but when you do a water change do you replace the mount of salt appropriate for the new water being added or does some of the salt still stay in the water concentrated so less should be added? hopefully this question makes sence, basically if i add the appropriate amount of salt every time i replace water after a water change will i actually be making the water to saline.

I have been on youtube and seen that many people have posted themselves feeding their fish insects, frogs, small fish. The people posting these videos are primarly owners of oscar fish. Is it ok for me to feed my red devil the same things?

I have 4 male guppies and 8 female guppies. 4 of the females are pregnant...so I seperated them and put them in their own tank with this fake "baby grass" at the bottom of the tank...it covers about 75% of the bottom of the aquarium. All 4 of them are pretty big and have very noticable, dark, gravid spots. Is there a good chance that most of the babies will survive? And should I move each female and put it back into the other guppy aquarium after it has the babies?
