I have two oscars, one about 6 inches and the other about 5, and two plecos, about 5 inches each. I have had them for a long time now. I recently changed filters from a hanging filter (whisper) to a Fluval 204 (30 Gal tank). I changed about 60% of the water, cleaned the rocks, the works. well, now my oscars are gasping at the top of the tank, they don't move much and don't want to eat. I am worried. I like my fish and have had them to long to lose them over something that i did wrong.

help.

I bought a 29 gallon tank from petsmart! I rinsed out the tank, rinsed off the gravel, put the gravel in the tank, added 1/2 of teh water, placed heater in, 2 plants, an airstone, and the filter in or on the tank, finished filling all the way and applied the hood. I added the correct dosege of stress zyme, as well as squarium salt. I did not add a declorinator, as i am letting it run for about a week before adding fish. I waited an hour before plugging in the heater, and now it is running fine!!

Did I do everything okay?

I want to put two Siamese fighter fish (ONE MALE & ONE FEMALE) together, the problem is that my tank isn't that big (about 3 lit) and I've read in some blog that even in this situation the male fighter would attack female one, and I have to have a big tank so they can hide or have their own teritories.
But I can't believe it, why would some male on the earth wouldn't be happy to be kept with females (as long as we know he's not gay ;) )
in addition, I don't have any other fish, I've just got one female and am wondering to get a male for her.

I am moving apartments and I'm the only one who takes care of my 20 gal aquarium. I had to add water to the tank and reinstall the filter and handle everything inside the tank. I'm six weeks pregnant and didn't realize what I was doing until just now. I read about certain illnesses handling other animals, though it was cats, not fish. Is handling freshwater aquarium fish ok? i guess its stupid to ask now, i've already set up their tank and washed my hands a few times. Also, I had a scrape and a cut on my hand. I washed that too and used peroxide. Does anyone know if what I did was super bad or not?

Thanks in advance.

Ok so I have 12 fish in my tank, along with a few other things (snails, loaches, frogs, etc.). I have two fish that are food hogs, and pretty overweight. Is there anything I can do? (The other fish get food, but these two guys are really getting fat, it can't be healthy?)

I have had a fighter fish for about 9 months now.
Latley he is acting very sad, and i don't really know what to do with him.
He is not moving very much and no longer will follow my finger on the outside of the tank.
He floates on the top of the bowl at the side of the tank, and just looks still.
Every now and then he lyes on the bottom.
He looks a little bloated i think and his head looks blacker than normal.
Sometimes he has a birst of energy and swimes around fine.
His tail looks a little ratty but i think that is the type of fighter he is it has been like this always.
He still eats fine but sometimes floates onto his side but not for long.
Does anyone know what may be wrong with him and how i make him better.

I hanve 3 bettas bought from the store at the same date, all three are in identical bowls, with identical plants and gravel, two of my betta's are long and flowing with their fins, they are making bubble nests, it's been 2 weeks, the other is dark blue and has a much more "chinese fan" shape to it's tail, and is generally more activethan the other to, is it possible that this fish was sexed wrong?, i have all three in 2 gallon fish bowls with pothos and i feed them properly 50%bloodworm and 50%tropical betta flakes i hand powder my mix? i'd love to breed them i have a 10 gallon empty tank, and we have well water, so no chance of chlorine poisoning, the other 2 have long flowing bisected fins, but the dark blue one has a fan shape tail and is way more active...

I have started adding fish to an aquarium I have had running for about three weeks now. I currently have a few mollies (black and white), a few platys (colorful), a dwarf guarami (Red and blue), and a very small rubber lip pleco, (will not get bigger than five inches.) I need some suggestions for fish that will be good in a peaceful Tropical tank (currently at 78 degrees) and that will help diversify my aquarium in shape, color, and most importantly size, (however I don't think I can handle anything over 5-6 inches.) So with those specifications do any of you fish lovers out there have any suggestions?

He lives in a bowl, but it's very large (don't have the volume, but it is a big bowl). I changed the water late on Monday evening, at which point he was fine. Used tap-safe as normal for the chlorine. Tuesday morning I gave him him usual flake food and he wasn't interested. On my return home on Tuesday evening it was all at the bottom untouched. Tried a few flakes and some bloodworms at that point, he ignored them all. At this point I suspected something was up so poured in a dosage of disease-safe and fish-safe to try and perk him up. He did perk up a little in that he's moving a bit more than on Tuesday, but other than that it's now Friday and he doesn't appear to be eating at all. He has no discolouration or growths, all his fins look 100%. He's spending a lot of time gasping at the top, that doesn't make sense as he has clean water still and I've also put in some oxygen tablets. It's very strange as he really looks quite normal other than he simply won't eat anything. Hmm

I recently rescued a small common goldfish I found. He was left on a picnic table in a plastic cup. Apparently, someone didn't want him, but didn't have the heart to flush him.
The problem is, i didn't have a tank set up for the little guy previously for obvious reasons. I've been keeping him in a small goldfish bowl, but he dirties it up very quickly and depleates his oxygen so fast that i have to make frequent water changes.
I bought a small tank today, compleate with biofilter, but i haven't put him in it yet. Here's where i need some help.

-the new tank hasn't gone through a 24 hour cycle yet. Should i put him in it anyway? He's already pretty stressed from the water changes and high ammonia build up over last night, i'm worried another move would be more damaging.
-is there anything i can do for the little guy to reduce stress? All he does is stay at the bottom, unmoving. He wont eat either. :(

Any help is greatly appresiated.
