Before my newly live rock all I had were dead rocks now I have one live & 4 dead rock, two clowns, cleaner shrimp, red general star fish, hermits and snails. All in a 40 gallon tank that 2 1/2 months old. So back to the 3 worms on the side of the glass...I know there are live species on the rocks but are worms one of them? If so what else should I be looking for so I won't trip out like I did with the worms. Also what can I get to eat the worms. What are good things on live rock and what are bad species on live rocks. The hermit and snails love the rock... so does the shrimp. The fish and the star fish has gotten close to it but that it.So fish lovers out there...please help me with these wormssssssss.

hello I have had two gouramis I think that they are opaline they are big gals. Anyway they keep spawning and nothing happens because according to the petshop they are both ladies. Anyway I think the clawed frogs may eat the eggs yum caviar. Anyway I am wondering if I could consider them a boyfriend and if so how many. The girls have a roomy ten gallon home which they share with two small african clawed frogs and two tiny chinese algae eaters. But I am open to the idea of adding another tank to my collection. As that would probably be needed to keep the fry from getting eaten. Thanks everyone.

I have a 55 gallon tank that we just bought and set up on April 30 of this year. The tank has just finished it's cycle (about 1 week ago) and right before it was finished, I noticed that the water had a yellowish cast to it.

Here's what I have in my tank: 2 blue gouramis, 2 dwarf flame gouramis, 3 conga tetras, 1 rainbow shark, 1 pleco and 2 cory cats. I have a Penguin Bio-Wheel 350 filter and a heater, of course. The bottom is white and red rock with 3 castles---1 lg. and 2 sm.---and 2 artificial plants.

When I turn the light on in the aquarium, the water looks fine. But, if the light is off, it just looks yellow/green. The water is NOT murky/cloudy AT ALL. My fish seem to be doing fine. The tank does not sit near a window or any where near where light can hit the tank at all. I don't see any moss growing on anything in there, either....

Any ideas on what's causing this and how I can make my water look clean again?

Thanks in advance,
Karen

I've got a 24 gallon saltwater reef tank, and I just got in the mail my new 250 watt metal halide system (15,000k). Prior, I've been using a 120 watt compact fluorescent system. My question is what special precautions should I be mindful of as I install this new system:

- Heat?
- UV penetration effecting the health of the fish?
- Dangerous effects from the light on people (the light will be hanging from the ceiling and will be in a living room)?
- Any other concerns?

Thanks.

I recently got a red male betta from pet smart. I put him in a small tank for about a week after a few days the water started getting cloudy so I washed out the tank. A few days later I purchased a 2.5 gallon plastic fish bowl. I washed it out and about after three days the water started getting cloudy. I use topfin betta water conditioner. I think I'm using anough. I would like to know how to prevent the water from getting cloudy.

I have a 215L Aquaone tropical fish tank which has been set up for the last 6 months or so with a small community of about 20 small fish. I am getting a spotty film of green algae on the glass and in the tank which is really annoying and a pain to clean. I know this is inevitable to a certain extent but is there anything i can do to reduce it! I do regular 20% water changes and my filters are kept in good working order.

I want to start a fresh water aquarium with tropical fish (no goldfish). I've gone to the pet store, searched on the net, and am basically just overwhelmed with information as of right now.
Aquarium starter kits, heating, lighting, ph levels, air pumps, plants, fake plants, decorations, rocks, etc. WOW!!! HELP ME!
Can someone break it down for me on what I need (just the starting out essentials), what the stuff does, and basically just give me a straight answer for someone new to it all? Thanks very much!!!

So I have finally saved up enough money to upgrade to a larger tank. I was thinkng about somewhere in the range of 30 to 50 gallons, haven't shopped around yet, but that's what I am thinking. My problem is this: How do I acclimate my fish in my old tank to the new one for transfering? I don't want to leave them in the old tank and start new, so thats kinda out of the question. Also, when I do get the larger tank, is it okay to fill it with tap water *becasue I am not going to buy 30 to 40 gallon water jugs* and add a dechlorinator, such as stress coat? I am not too new to keeping aquariums, but still, better ask first, then be sorry for not asking later! One more question; how long does stress coat take to make tap water safe? Thanks!

So this morning my smallest 3 spot domino damsel died and had white slimey stuff on him. he was getting beaten by my 3 stripe damsel so i asumed it was just stress. Now i noticed a little bit of white on my other 3spot domino damsels mouth. i have live rock with some featherdusters that are starting to appear as well as some hermit crabs. how do i go about treating this without killing my inverts? the other damsel with the white on his mouth also gets beat up by the 3 stripe damsel is this disease or just stress?

They look like a mini starfish. Every one of them have 5 "arms", some shorter than others, but never more or less. Kind of an off white color. They are attached to the side of the tank. Sometimes I see them on snail shells. I can't see them travel, but they must move because they will be there once & then a few hour later, they're gone.

I do have a large starfish in the tank. Could it be reproducing? My only other (doubtful) thought is maybe it's coral. The tank is not equiped with proper lighting for coral, but we have some live rock that came with some coral (It doesn't seem to be thriving without the lighting).

Any ideas? Thanks!

I started Giving him 3 as usual, but then on the bottle of betta bites, it said 6-8 per serving, so i started giving him 8 so that is equal 16 a day. After that that i noticed that my betta was just floating like if he was full and ready to explode, that made me feel sad but i though he liked the 8 per serving, but later then i found out he didnt, so i dont really know what to do now, today i gave him 3 per serving and now he seems kinda healthier but hungry so what would you recommend me?
-thanks

i change 20% of water twice a week but i dont have a syphone whats some good small cleaning type fish or snails or crabs or whatever that would eat alage and kinda groom gravel, i wouldnt mind making my tank brackish so thats not a problem (unless Oscras cant survive in brackish but i think they can and do) this is my first warm water aquarium and its doing great my fish is very energetic and the water has a good rich soil smell so i think im doing pretty good, also i know i will need to upgrade my tank to 80gal
