I recently got a red male betta from pet smart. I put him in a small tank for about a week after a few days the water started getting cloudy so I washed out the tank. A few days later I purchased a 2.5 gallon plastic fish bowl. I washed it out and about after three days the water started getting cloudy. I use topfin betta water conditioner. I think I'm using anough. I would like to know how to prevent the water from getting cloudy.

Have you got a filter in the tank ? did you cycle it ? if not I would advise putting one in and doing regular partial water changes until it is fully cycled (roughly 2 weeks) and/or cutting down on the amount of food you feed it.

Do you have the tank in direct sunlight?

I have mine actually on a shelf away from sunlight and the window. Behind it I have a lavalamp standing which I turn on for 12 hours a day, and turn off at night.
I change about 25%-50% of water every other week
I feed my beta only once 3 pellets a day and I have a real plant in my bowl.
And I also have some gravel on the bottom
Every time I do waterchanges I put the Beta conditioner in as directed.
My water isn't cloudy at all

And I have neither a pump nor a heater in there

Good luck

The only way to stop the water from getting cloudy is to get a filter and cycle the tank,if he is in a bowl with no filter you need to change the water every 3 0r 4 days anyway.

You should change about half the water once a week. Have you tried putting a plant of some sort in the tank? I would also buy a small submersible filter for it.

Try using some live water plants, the betta likes them. My tank stays clean for about a week.
