Oscars will want to grow an inch a month until they are at full adult size of about 15". If you are feeding a good high protein food (pellets or flakes) he will outgrow the 10 gallon tank in about 2 more months. If he is only 3 1/2 months old, he is doing fine. Oscars can live to the ripe old age of 15 years if cared for properly.

You could increase the 10% water change to 25% (and probably should) and it would do him a world of good. Ten one inch neons would be fine in a 10, but a 3 1/2" oscar has much more bulk and adds a huge amount of bio-load to a tank that small. Oscars are dirty guys and need more maintenance than other fish. The more bulk a fish has, the more water volume is needed to keep the quality in top shape.

Good luck with your oscar and I hope you get him a 55 soon.

No. Way too small. Oscars will grow over 12 inches and need a lot more room than that to grow. I would recommend at least a 55/75 gal tank for one fish. If your not willing to get that big of a tank and oscar is not the fish for you.

oscars can get VERY large. if he is not moved into a larger tank soon enough, he will be stunted and will have many problems that could result in death. not to mention that oscars are extremely messy. you need very good filtration and should do water changes whenever necessary (which could be more than once a week). he really should have a tank of at least 75 gallons if you plan on having other (smaller, but not too small to be eaten) fish in with him (make sure they're compatible!) and if he is going to be by himself, 55 is the very least.

Do a 30% water change instead of a 10%.

You may not see any problems, but there are/will be.

Oscars would grow to an adult side of around 15".

But in a 10 gallon, it cannot grow that large. Its body will stop growing but its organs won't. This will cause extreme pain.

You may not see problems, but the fish is most likely excreting stress hormones that will result in stunted growth and future health problems. The 10% daily water changes are definately a good thing and will reduce the hormones in the water, but since you know you'll need the 55 gallon soon, why not go ahead and get it so you don't need to do daily water changes and he's in an appropriate environment?

You are doing great so far, but please move him as soon as you can. In a couple more inches, he will be really tough to maintain in this tiny home. How fast he grows does depend on your feeding habits. If you are feeding him correctly, he is going to grow quite fast... You can measure him with a ruler as he swims by, do this daily and you will see what his daily average growth is and get a pretty close idea of your time frame. As everyone feeds differently, an exact time frame of growth is tough. But don't cut his rations thinking it will stall the inevitable. That would be mean amd he would learn crabbiness as a result, at the very least.

Oscars grow fairly quickly. You will start causing him harm when he is about 5" long or so. Plan on a larger tank soon.
