I have a 215L Aquaone tropical fish tank which has been set up for the last 6 months or so with a small community of about 20 small fish. I am getting a spotty film of green algae on the glass and in the tank which is really annoying and a pain to clean. I know this is inevitable to a certain extent but is there anything i can do to reduce it! I do regular 20% water changes and my filters are kept in good working order.

It depends on what kind of plants you have growing in there and how much light you need. For example, java moss doesn't need very much light, but watersprite needs a lot of it.

Don't leave your lights on for more than six hours.

Snails probably won't help that much. They may be able to keep the algae down to a manageable level, but the amount of waste they produce will probably cause more algae problems. Instead, try to get more fast-growing plants like moss balls, hornwort or wisteria which can use up the nutrients in the water before algae can get the chance to grow. If possible, you can cut down on feeding too, but make sure it doesn't harm your fish.

Limit the amount of light exposure & get one of those special algae eating fish....they're great. We used to have 5 large tanks full of fish when I was growing up, made sure to keep one of those fish in every tank & they kept them looking good.
