I have 4 male guppies and 8 female guppies. 4 of the females are pregnant...so I seperated them and put them in their own tank with this fake "baby grass" at the bottom of the tank...it covers about 75% of the bottom of the aquarium. All 4 of them are pretty big and have very noticable, dark, gravid spots. Is there a good chance that most of the babies will survive? And should I move each female and put it back into the other guppy aquarium after it has the babies?

The more cover you have the better the chance babies will survive. With 4 adult females in the tank, you need to pack as many hiding places in as possible as all of them will see the babies as food. I would suggest adding several spawning mops to the tank.

To make a spawning mop, take some yarn and wrap it around a book about 20 times. Start at the top of the book and go long ways around until you stop back where you started. Don't pull it tight, just wrap. Next cut the yard at the top and tie a small extra piece at the bottom, opposite of where you started and stopped. Now cut the yarn back at the top. Now you have a spawning mop. Boil the mops for a few minutes to get them soft and tie them to pieces of clean styrofoam cup so they will float and hang down into the tank or just allow them to sink to the bottom. Some from the top and some from the bottom would be best in your case just to add even more hiding places.

Yes, you should remove each female as soon as she has the babies or she will try to eat the babies in the tank.

I easily have a tank of my very own with 2 guppies(one woman and one male). I purely have been given a clean 1gal tank for breeding purposes. this may well be an exceptionally decrease priced and basic to establish device for beginers to breeding livebearers. element is, your guppy WILL devour her fry (offspring) in the event that they have no hiding places. additionally the different fish interior the tank will additionally locate the frys a delectable snack in the event that they at the instant are not separated from the tank directly. in case you pick the greater youthful guppies to proceed to exist, you will possibly be able to desire to get a small tank, or you could purchase a floating tank from maximum interior of sight fish shops, then you definately positioned the fry into the tank and watch them improve :) I easily have had one proceed to exist via itself with none separation from the tank friends yet all of his brothers and sisters have been eaten (approximately 20 of them). good success jointly with your guppies :)

Get real plants in your breeder tank, that way the fry can hide from the females
Feed them with "First bites" after they are born
Good luck
