So as many of you may have read, I recently bought a 29 gallon FW tank. I still have my 10 gal. FW set up with the fish I plan to switch over to the 29. My dad said I should keep the 10 gallon up and running as a "quarantine" tank; when new fish are purchased, I would keep them in the ten gallon for 14 days in order to be sure they are healthy. Then, after this quarantine period, I would transfer them into the 29! Is this a great idea, or am I just loco? *Thats crazy for those non- espanol speakers*

That is a truly superior idea! A quarantine tank is one of the single best things you can ever do for the health and safety of your other tanks. Your dad is 100% on target, no two ways about it.

Your dad is right. This is the safest, conservative way to introduce fish into your tank. Yes, you could drop them directly into your 29g tank, but you never know what store-bought fish's health is. I have seen store-bought fish come home pregnant, aggressive, diseased, etc.

Of course, this means that you have to continue maintaining and paying for 2 tanks. However, since 29g is relatively small, hopefully you can get rid of the 10g tank once you're done populating the 29g tank.
