the stream in my woods is drying up from the heat and I noticed some fish cry swimming in a shallow isolated puddle that was sure to dry up and kill them, so I took them home but I'm not sure how old they are or even what kind of fish they are, they're about the size of a mosquito larvea. is it ok to feed them now and what type of food would be best? any help will be greatly appreciated!

I know that peas and spinich are good, but I dont always have cooked spinich ready for him everyday. I also don't like peas, unless it's for fixing a swimbladder problem. My goldfish is a messy eater and he always gulps down too much air. This obvious from his sometimes floating poop. Ahaha. It will only get worse if he's chasing around a pea at the surface. :P

Are slices of orange okay? I was thinking about using that. :)

Anyway, suggesstions would be appreciated. :) I bought my little goldy for his beauty, but these trailing poop ropes kind of kill the mood of the tank. Just a little. Ahaha :)

Today I'm going to get a 10 to 30 gallon tank, depending on the cost. I'm not going to do the water cycle thing this is just gonna be a trial and error test. I'm just going to set up the tank in prepertation for the fish i'm going to buy on Saturday or next week. What would be the best fish to put in for my first fish??? I want to start off with an easy fish. My tank is going to be a fresh water tank. What was the first fish you got and how did that work out??? The fish I'm thinking I want in the tank, most likely a 10 - 20 gallon tank are..

Bettas
Danios
Guppies
Mollies
Tetras
Platies

The type I want for each are easy fish that get along with other easy fish.

How much of each can I put in the tank?? I want to add more fish every 2 or 3 months. I'll mostly upgrade to a bigger tank when necessary.

We had a tank for several weeks, then the fish started dying, with what looked like a cotton wool around them, we also had a large case of brown algae.
Now all the fish are gone, we want to properly clean it out and start again, would bleech or washing up liquid work, of course throughly rinsing after. Then put water and fake plants back in and give the tank a week to settle before introducing new fish, also what would stop the algae coming back. Its a cold water tank and we hae a filter for it, we bought a algae eating fish but that did not help.

He is smaller than his brother and always has been, i only have those two in the tank. His eyes are dark and protruding, whereas the other has clear flat eyes. When i came in, i found him on the side of the filter, so i turned that off. He swam around a bit but is now mostly at the bottom. Is there anything i can do????

It's like chaos has broken out in my tank. My blue female is attacking my yellow pregnant guppy, I isolated her and a sick guppy (not sure what's wrong with her I'll get to that in a sec) together in a fry net to keep them away from the aggressive female but now the yellow female is attacking the sick female inside the net..What is wrong here?! Ontop of which the only female left in the tank with my males is the blue female and they are pestering her.
The sick guppy..I'm not sure what's wrong with her.. Three days ago she starting hanging at the top of the tank in a certain corner and she's refusing to eat. She has two small holes in her tail that aren't getting any bigger. Her color was good for awhile but now she's looking pale. She isn't showing any symptoms of being sick other than refusing to eat and being very inactive. I'm going to isolate her in a hospital tank. What should I do about the other two?

Have just bought some minnows and I dont know what to feed them, the guy in the fish store said that they are tropical but can be kept in coldwater tank. Do I feed them tropical fish food or cold water fish food? Luckily I have both but have killed 3 fish in as many weeks and I dont think my daughter can cope with any more dead pets!!!

I'm pretty sure i'm supposed to change about 1 third of the water every 5-7 days but how do i clean the bottom of the tank? I have put a layer of sand on the bottom and i don't know how to separate the sand from the uneaten pellets or fish waste... any help?

Hello, I just bought my first aquarium( have wanted one for years!) It's a 10 gallon tank and I just added the water yesterday(its not 24hrs yet)..... When I use a fish to start the cycling, how long should i leave him there before adding new fish? Do I still have to test the water even though I used the fish to start the cycle? Do I need an air pump?(the filter spits water back in the tank and creates bubbles)

I have had a problem for the last couple of days.

I have a four foot tank that has been fine for about 8 months. yesturday I noticed that all the fish are at the top of the tank. I dont have an air pump but use a large filter which is set up to slash on the top and airate. this has worked fine until now. I have two plecks and I saw the largest pleck appear to come up for air last night. I also have a red finned shark who is nose up.

I cleaned the filter today and that didn't make a bit of difference.

does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Sam
