help!! want to start a salt water tank?

I just got a 25 gallon fishtank from a friend and I need help with chooing the fish. I did the research on what i need and I will have a FOWLR tank.. i was intrested in gettin a lion fish.. but I dont know what would go well with it.. i do want colorful fish like some angels or dragonettes.. also some janitors so if anyone could let me know what fish goes well with a lionfish and in a 25 gallon tank.. or even if i could get a lionfish... thanks

A dwarf lion (dwarf, fuzzy dwarf, or Fu Manchu) would be the only ones small enough to keep in a tank your size (they'll get to around 5-7" and a 30 gallon is considered their minimum tank size). I would advise against the dragonettes, though. They're the size a lion would consider food, for one thing, they also need about 40 gallons of mature tank with loads of live rock to produce enough copepods to feed them. They're pretty, but not the easiest fish to care for.

You'd need a tankmate big enough that your lion wouldn't be able to get it into his mouth to keep anything else with it. Lions are predators, after all! I would try something an adult size of 5-6" at least, and not something with a torpedo body shape that would go down a little too easy. One fish of that size would be about all your tank could handle in terms of the number of fish. Large angels, groupers, and eels are most often recommended, but these would be too large for your tank. Unless you might want to consider increasing the tank size, you might do best with just the one lion in the tank.
