I have a pump and a filter with uv, but when it is all switched on, it just moves the green stuff all around the pond making it look all cloudy so you cant see the fish. When the filter and pump is switched off, it settles, and only then you can see the fish. Also, i have heard you should leave the pump and filter on continuously, but this doesnt clear it. Any help???

I have a 29 gallon salt water tank. I have a bunch of live rock encrusted with coralline algae which is red, green and purple. However some of it is fading and I want to maintain it's color and health within the tank.

I add calcium to the tank but my lighting consists of one 50/50 flourescent bulb. What should I do? I cannot do metal hallide types of bulbs and don't have a huge budget either!!!

Thanks!

I bought a Clown Loach on Monday and foolishly thought to myself 'thats it, my tank is complete....' Idiot!!!!!
I noticed late last night (after some strange behaviour from my Plec - see my previous question) that my new Clown Loach had 'beautiful' little white 'salt-like' spots on him!!!!! I've now treated the tank with some anti-whitespot treatment. Only then did I notice that Elephant nose fish are sensitive to it, and yes you've guessed it - I have one of those in there too.
He's now (as well as the Plec) swimming in the top third of the tank (not usual behaviour as both bottom feeders I know)

My questions are these...... What's the 'real' outcome here?

Am I gonna lose all my fish again (got a load of inbred/infested guppies last time and they finished off my previous tank)

And, does anyone have any tips/tricks for a happy ending?

(I've also turned the temp up in the tank to 28c (82f)

Many Thanks in advance

I have a 5 gallon tank with 4 small platties, a female and male betta, a barb and two ghost shrimp. They all got along great until yesterday when I noticed three of four platties dead on the bottom of the tank ( I had been gone all day and they seemed fine in the morning when I left). The shrimp were dead too.
Anyway, the fourth was dead this morning. The two bettas seem fine.
I did notice that the platties all looked quite fat lately and it even looked like they had white poop hanging out of their anuses all of the time. The female betta looks like this now, but her behavior isn't strange.
I'm thinking they may have some sort of parasite (nematodes?). What should I do to protect the remaining bettas and barb?

Stupid question....can you get diseases from putting your hands in a fish tank (like when your cleaning or moving ornaments around...etc) My tanks DON'T have filters, they are 5 gal. and hold betta's (which aren't big fans of alot of current or water movement) and I frankly didn't want to hassle with filters anyway. I change the water every few days. I've been using gloves when I clean the tank...but that gets to be a pain after awhile. I've seen lots of people stick their hands right into a tank...so guessing it's ok???

Ok first thing i have 20 gl 1 under gravel fltr 1 power fltr - 1 standart fltr so there is 3 filter on my tank with 1(3") Fantail goldfish - 1(1") Bubble eye goldfish n there is no problem week by week when i care my fish with cleaning n etc.
But last week on thursday i add more 1(1") Red head goldfish & 4 yellow snail n on friday i make water 30% change n clean of all my filter then add 2 1/5 tbl spoon salt & conditioner like i do before - this week i add some of Kordon AmQuel Plus n 2% warm watter after 24 hour i look my fantail goldfish like sitting on the bottom & sometimes its like hard to breathing but for 2 other goldfish its normal when i check the water level i find my nitrite is high its 3.0 before is 0 what happen then?

My question is.....
1. what cause my nitrite is high? is it overstock? is it Kordon AmQuel Plus? is it to much snail? or warm water?
2.how to reduce my nitrite (i do 60% water change lastday n is not working)
3.how long to make nitrite back to normal?

I've been wanting a pet for awhile, but my landlord will only allow small aquariums in our apartment. So, I've been thinking about seahorses. Does anyone know whether or not they make good pets? How should I care for them? What do they eat? And just the general questions for any pets. A website with this information will be most helpful.

Thanks guys!!

I have pumped most of the water from my 15' round, 2' deep pond to clean debris from the bottom. Can I refill using a garden hose from the house tap or will the chlorine kill the fish and frogs? Is there a chemical I can add to conteract any negative effects of using tap water? Would it be better if I just did a slow fill from ther tap. I appreciate any good advive. Thanks

I have a fish that's lying on his back at the bottom of the tank, and weakly moving his fins. He looks bloody inside. Should I wait until he dies before I flush him, or does he suffer less if I flush him down right now?
