I have a fish that's lying on his back at the bottom of the tank, and weakly moving his fins. He looks bloody inside. Should I wait until he dies before I flush him, or does he suffer less if I flush him down right now?

...I feel bad suffocating it. At the same time I don't want the ammonia to kill anything else. Hmm.

put him in a cup with water and clove oil. the oil acts like an anaesthetic and will cause it to lose consciousness, then die

As of yesterday I have a blood nose tetra weakly moving ,too. He is lying on the ground and I'm guessing moved a couple of times because he's in a different area each time. I watch him for about 10 min. to see if any ones bullying him. I'll do everything I can for him. I would not kill him just test the water and check on him and do everything you can.

once you alter the water you're able to in basic terms exchange 20% of it, and go away the water status for twenty-four hours in the previous including it to the tank. in case you used clean water without therapy, that's probably what killed them. If there is not any wish, the finest thank you to euthanase a fish is to place some clove oil (the stuff you get from a chemist for the teeth discomfort) in the fish bowl......it painlessly places them to sleep interior 5 minutes. I certainly have heard of the alker selzer way, yet not tried it, and function used clove oil on 2 fish with dropsy at present.

Yes, the clove oil and freezing are considered humane ways to end a fish's life. Put him in a cup with clove oil or in a cup in the freezer. Please don't flush him - he'll still live awhile in the sewage system and suffer. A little known fact about the sewage systems - near the sewage plants anything solid is ground up as it passes through! So, don't ever condemn a fish to die by flushing.

ooo. i always put some squished out aloe vera gel(from the actual plant) into the tank if my fish doesnt look too good. it works wonders. but it sounds like your fish is about to die. internal blleding? what is wrong with it! did some other fish pick on it or somethin?
either that or try that salt, i think epsom?....
good luck to the fishee. (i always bury mine. it sound better than" i flushed it".)

Well to be honest if you flush a fish it will still live the same time as it is now. They say to take it out of the tank and let it die quick is what i have been taught as i worked with a vet. Sorry to hear about your fish. :(

Clove oil is the most humane way to euthanize a fish, unless you have access to MS-222 (a fish anesthetic). The process you need is described here: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-most-humane-way-to-euthanize-a-fish.htm
The above method is approved by The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Panel on Euthanasia. For other home options approved by this board, see this link: http://www.petplace.com/fish/euthanasia-in-fish/page1.aspx You'll note that their recommendations consider freezing INHUMANE!

A better way to go about killing him by freezing is to fill a bowl with water and put it in the freezer.. wait until there is a think layer of ice on the top of the bowl... really thin aka the water is JUST cold enough to be freezing... and put the fish in.. this way it is immediate death instead of freezing to death slowly... good luck sorry about fishy..

Have you checked with the pet store to see if there is something that you can medicate him with??
If he really IS dying -- well, flushing is terrible. Let him die in peace.

Please dont flush him. When I have a dying fish, I put it in the freezer. Its more of a going to sleep sensation than drowning in the toilet or suffocating because you took him out of the water. I feel this is more humane than leaving it in the tank to suffer.

Well... I would sufficate it out of the water then flush him down the toilet. I hate seeing animals getting hurt or hurt already. I am really sorry.
