he is the only red tail shark in the tank....we av hatchetts, 2 silver sharks and a few others

Your advise was correct. They are generally peaceful when it comes to other fish, but they will fight among themselves. I would also avoid adding any rainbow sharks to the tank for the same reason.

These particular fish are very entertaining to watch. You might want to add some plants to the aquarium (they love the ones with the big leaves). I had a 30 gallon tank and about 5 or 6 of them and I would sit and watch them chase each other around the tank. I would try mixing them with Convict Cichlids (of the same size).

They can be semi-aggressive. Passive fish like smaller gouramis, neon tetras, and other small fragile fish are likely to be picked on. Fish that can hold their own like tiger barbs, large tetras, smaller cichlids, and corydoras catfish (they've got some nasty spines) typically won't be bothered.

Because they are territorial and see others of their own kind as threat and competition. Many types of fish are this way.
