The male will build a nest in a tank with other fish, but the female should not be in the tank with him until you intend to breed them and both are ready. Otherwise, eventually he will kill her.

I'm sure if they are really ready they would breed in a tank with other fish, but don't expect even a single baby to make it. Between other fish eating eggs and fry and babies, the filter sucking them up, no adequate food supply.... it would be hard for even one to make it.

If by other fish you mean a community tank, he probably won't build a nest just becuase the filtration or aeration in the water creates too much turbulence not allowing the nest to stay together. If it is the case that there isn't too much turbulence, he may try to build a nest, but like was already mentioned it is unlikely that the eggs would survive. Additionally... a male and a female shouldn't be kept together all the time, only for short periods for breeding.. and thus, for the small amount of time you put her in the tank, the normal behaviors you would expect to see, may not be observed as they may be distracted by the other fish. For best betta breeding results, you need about a 10 gallon aqarium, and the male to be alone, with a chance to build his nest and perfect it. It works to put a female in a jar/fish bowl next to that tank so he can see her... a little motivation if you will... and that way she has a cue to produce eggs as well... good luck

I have a community tank with 1 male and 2 female Betta's along with swordtails, platy's, corydora's, tetra's etc. They wouldn't breed in the community tank so I had to put him in a 10 gallon tank. I then put a female in a new oil lamp globe in the center of his tank and he blew his nest. After a few days I let her out with him. Now I have many fry. Which are very very small and would probably make a tasty snack to the fish in the community tank. So I don't think it is possible. If you need more info do a google search or go to www.bettatalk.com.

maximum male betta will build a bubble nest faster or later. i've got even seen sickly ones build bubble nests. yet they are going to be lots extra probably to construct a bubble nest in the event that they are in good well-being. in case you have a heater or ornament on the exterior/area of the tank, the betta will use it to construct his nest on (as unfavorable to at once or tender tank partitions that are difficult for him to make a nest against, via fact the bubbles will merely flow everywhere). additionally, if his tank is on a floor that gets bumped (like a flimsy writing table), the bubbles will scatter. So save his tank someplace good! i assume you ought to aim putting a woman betta nearby of him for a jiffy at a time to inspire a bubble nest if all else fails... do merely not placed her in the tank with him!

Firstly you need to make sure that your male has reached sexual matuity otherwise he will just eat the female you introduce.

He will try to build a bubble nest but with the other fish in the tank it means it may not last long.

Not while he's in that tank.

Get another tank, about 1foot and take some of the water out and put it in that tank. Have it well planted, don't have any gravel.

Get your male and female and put them in.
Get something on top the water, which floats.
I used a bit of new mop head.

Wait and see what happens.

I've breed fighters and its great to watch, he curls his body around her, mates, and catchs the eggs and puts them in bubbles.

Once finish take her out. He'll look after them untill they hatch.

You can only keep 1 male and loads of females in a community together.

Hope this helps!

Sometimes they will breed if there are other fish in the tank, but the likely hood of the eggs surviving is not good. If the eggs do live to hatch, its a slim to none chance any babies will survive to adulthood. Good Luck though! Its fun to try.

I hope you don't have more than one male betta (unless you have lots of females) as if you do, they will fight. They're not called Siamese FIGHTING fish for nothing!!
