i just saw my oranda(female) and lionhead(male) spawning this morning in my display tank and also i found lots of eggs on some plants. after about 3 hours of spawning i remove all fish (5 only) to my next 20 gallon tank coz some other goldish was eating the eggs. and also it was impossible to remove eggs from the tank. now i am wondering to know what will be the offspring of these two types of goldfish?

Is it possible that females can attack another female that has a different fin? I'm pretty sure that my 2 females have spade tails and my other one is a crowntail.

I've put them in at the same time. The 2 spade females gang up on the other one. I have hiding spots, plants, conditioned.. EVERYTHING...

I think I just have a flashy crowntail. Because it will challenge the dominate spade female. But she isn't hurt....

I just recently got a Pacu from a friend who had 2 in a 55 gal tank. The one I got is approximately a foot long (7 months old) and seems to be getting bigger daily. I have read up on them and learned that they can get as big as 30 inches or more. What size tank is appropriate for a full grown Pacu?

I have a male beta but my husband and I just got a big tank, I know male beta will fight eachother but I have seen them mixed with other breeds in stores occasionally. I want to put him in the big tank but not if there is a chance he will attack the other fish.

Help! I got 3 Bala Sharks today...in my 5 gallon tank. I didn't know how big these fishies get. They're less than 2" long right now. Should I return them to Wal-Mart? I've already put them in my tank, will switching the environments so much kill them? If I decide to keep them, how long before I need to upgrade to a larger tank? Will a 30 gallon tank last for at least 3 years? I probably can't afford any bigger for now. I've already grown fond of them, they're fun to watch because they dart around and do things, rather than other boring fish I've seen.

I have had the same fish for several years and not once have I had any babies born into the aquarium. Is it possible that the fish just became "friends" and prefer to just live together? (I'm sure that sounds awkward but who knows?) I currently have a 55 gal tank with 15 african cichlids, a 30 gal with 2 red tiger oscars and no babies!!

My guppy gave birth this morning in a fry trap. It was great because the babies slipped through into the bottom so mom couldn't eat them all. She did get a few though... Anyway, I read that swordtail fry are a little bigger than guppies so will they be too big to slip through the fry trap vent into the bottom? Mommy swordtail was preggers this morning but not anymore. I saw her on the bottom of the tank but never saw any fry. I guess they all got chomped. To prevent this, I'd like to use the fry trap next time. Will it be the right size? Also, I have a couple black swordtail females. How in the world will I know when they're ready to give birth? You can't see the fry's eyes through their bellies because it's black on black. For that matter, I really couldn't see them on my velvet swordtail either. I just noticed she looked ready to explode!!! Thoughts? Thanks!

I had 4 guppies. One died after only a few days in the tank (we found him sucked in the filter). Now one of my guppies (a female) has gotten pretty fat and her scales are sticking out. At first we thought she might be pregnant, but since her scales started to stick out I think she may be sick. She also seems to be swimming horizontal. Her head straight up, and her tail down.

Just wanting to make sure I am doing everything right. I know I have already made some mistakes but luckily so far they haven't been fatal to my fish. Some of the things I've done I've gotten from advice here. Here's the info.
I have a 29 gallon long with 5 guppies (2 males/3 females will add more females when ammonia drops) and 2 cory cats. Have had tank running about a week.
Temp stays between 80 and 82 degrees F.
Ammonia is currently between .25 and .50 which I am controlling by doing water changes at least every other day until the bacteria can catch up. I have 0 nitrites or nitrates. I don't use any chemicals besides 1 1/2 tablespoons of salt (keeping it low until I'm sure my corys can tolerate it) and Tetra Aquasafe to get rid of chlorine.
PH levels stay between 7.8 and 8.4 despite using peat moss from the garden center which I have in a nylon bag and I either hang it on the side of the tank or set it in my HoB power filter. (additional details)

Can someone PLEASE explain cycling to me in very plain terms. I keep hearing about it and I don't know what it is.......Also, I can't seem to get my pH any lower than 7.4 I'd like to see it down around 7.0. I've tried the pH lowering liquid and tablets. Just don't seem to help. Any suggestions? I'll add that we have well water and a water softener. Would this affect it?
TIA

We generally have activities such as sports, watching television, exercising, dancing, cooking, shopping, making love, reading, traveling etc. I know fish are limited to their fish tank and whatever is in it, but what are their daily activities, do they ever get bored, what do they enjoy?

Our clown fish died (he was 7 yrs old) and we just put 2 new little clown fish in our tank about a week ago. There are a couple other fish in the tank that keep charging at them, and every once in awhile they get nipped. We have an eneminy for the clown fish that is supposed to protect them but they were tank raised and don't seem to realize what it is for. How can I get the fish to realize that the eneminy will protect them?

im sort of suspecting ick!
few days earlier, my fish were twitching and had clamped fins.
i cleaned the tank normally as i would.
this morning they were clamped.
i thought my fish are doing better then right now from the looks of their dorsal fin there are tiny white salt specks, but only on the fins, its not very visible but i thik i see them. is it ick for sure? and whats the best ttreatment?

and if its not ick and they are helthy is it still okay to use medication (just to be sure)?
will they be harmed? i
do not want my beloved fish to die!! will they die is there any chance??? pleasee hlepp`!

i just read that ick is only from other fish!
i think my new fish had ick ! it was from the carnival!
sigh, anyways what can i do ?
please do the step by step stuff ( how to wash tank, how to put medication,)
and wi the fish survive i got the new fish on april 27
