Our clown fish died (he was 7 yrs old) and we just put 2 new little clown fish in our tank about a week ago. There are a couple other fish in the tank that keep charging at them, and every once in awhile they get nipped. We have an eneminy for the clown fish that is supposed to protect them but they were tank raised and don't seem to realize what it is for. How can I get the fish to realize that the eneminy will protect them?

the anemone came with the last clown fish, and it useed to rub on it and sleep in it...used it as it's home. I was told that it also helps to keep the fish clean. The fish store told my dad that our fish would be compatible with the clowns.

Sage has given you some pretty good advice. Most marine fish will defend "their" territory. When the last clown lived in the tank, all the fish had "their" own places and they all knew who had which spots. When the last clown died, the other fish probably expanded their territories to include his. Your new fish has no territory, and the other fish are picking on them because anywhere they go, he's in someone else's turf. If you move all the rocks and decorations around, the fish won't have the same landmarks to defend, so it will give your new fish a better chance at claiming an area. But this will also depend on the size of the other fish, how aggressive they are, and your clowns. In the meantime, make sure they have a place in the rocks where they can hide, or add a small piece of PVC pipe for a "cave" for them.

For a clownfish to use an anemone, they have to be compatible types. Even then, not all will get along together. If the anemone is one that your clownfish are likely to use, they may eventually have it as part of their territory. If it was just chance that your last clown used it, the new ones may not. Here's a website you can use to find out if your clowns and anemone are a good match: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_3/cav3i1/Clown_anemone/Clown_anemone.htm Even tank-raised fish will use anemones, but clowns don't have to have an anemone in the tank to do well (and anemones don't have to have a clownfish).

They're being territorial - they've all probably been in the tank a good many years, try moving around all the rocks so the tank looks totally different. As for the anemone - there's no way to make them host. However most clowns prefer long tentacle or bubbles - this may encourage hosting.

Your best bet because the clowns are so small would be to purchase a smaller tank (10 to 20 gallons) with a regular filter and decent light. Take at least half the water from the big tank. Let them grow in the small tank and the larger move all the rocks around right before introducing them. If you do this leave the anemone in the big tank unless y'all are willing to purchase a protein skimmer for the small tank.

you cannot teach the clowns that the anemone are there for them, also, what kind of anemone is it? Not all anemone are clown compatable.

Also, what are the other fish in the tank that are chasing them? Some fish are just not suposed to be in the same tank. Unfortunately there isn't much other than providing hiding places that you can do other than letting them work out their territory differences. The only other thing you can do is build up the clowns so they can protect themselves. Usually 3 is a good number. Be sure you have enough cover and hiding places for all your fish. Don't be suprised if your clowns never use your anemone.

Goldfish have a diverse temp requirement than the others, they want a twenty gallon long tank so which you would be able to flow those out. Angels are huge fish, they'd desire to stand as much as six inches and choose approximately 30 gallons. Janitors fish get to a foot long. those fish choose over one hundred gallons, exceedingly in case you have 2 of them. you would be able to desire to do analyze on your pets, i don't know what you have been thinking or what sort of undesirable suggestion to procure from the petstore, yet you merely won't be in a position to flow in there and %. what you think of is cool finding. you have have been given a brilliant mess on your hands. a colourful fish for ten gallons is ONE dwarf gourami, or ONE male betta or 3 woman bettas, or 3 male guppies.
