I can find pure amonia, without perfumes, dyes, etc. All of the clear amonia I can find has had at least a small amount of surfactant added to it. Anybody know if this is a problem? I have a skimmer... will that take care of any surfactant effect?

I bought 2 baby Columbian Shark Catfish the other day and put them into a 40 gallon freshwater tank. They are about 5 inches long. And i feed them tubifex worms and fish pellets.
But they just don’t seem to be eating!
Why don’t they eat?
Or do they prefer eating something else?
How often should i feed them?
Does the water have to be a bit salty for them to survive?
If i do add salt, will the submersible filter malfunction?
What other fish could live with these 2 baby shark catfish?

Answers to my questions will be very much appreciated. Thanx...

My betta, Lily, has been acting weird since I've changed her water a few hours ago. The only thing I did differently than in the past when I've changed her water was add Splendid Betta "BettaFix Remedy" by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals...Its supposed to be an "all natural, antibacterial remedy" just for bettas to treat wounds, ulcers, fungus, and fin rot. It's also supposed to "promote re-growth of damaged fins," blah blah blah. It contains Melaleuca 0.2% / Inert Ingredients 99.8%. I used this along with what I normally use to condition her water, which is Splendid Betta "Complete Water Conditioner". Could these 2 possibly have some kind of bad reaction that could be causing her to be sick? She's swimming kind of on her side, darting around, and also hiding in her plants--things she never has done before.

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank with several fish ( I know I am OVERCROWDING). Several koi from 4-6 inches, 3 albino rainbow sharks, 2 colombian sharks, a betta, and a pleco. Tonight I adopted a rather large (and beautiful) gold algae eater (6"). Since they tend to be aggressive, is he likely to attack his new tank mates, or are they big enough to fend for themselves?? I have a plant cluster in one corner and a rock formation for shelter. Will the rest of the fish be okay, or do I have a bully on my hands?

big territory war.. thy are ripping each other apart. i tried everything, feeding them feeders, rearranging rocks and plants, and attempted using a divider system which they brake through. it started with just on of them biting the there and it looked like i had a couple with a dominate male just fighting the other. now all of them are destroying each other

i got these fish about 2 months ago from my buddy who now serving time overseas. they are all about 17 months old

do you think a fish dealer will let me donate them and then get just 2 baby ones as a switch.

We have a fish we won from the carnival...goldfish, 2 rose barbs or something (for warm water) and this bulgy eyed cold water black fish. I know the tank we have right now is small for all four but one of the barbs is getting attacked! The poor things fin, and tail and all are only 1/3 there, the rest was ripped off. I cant tell by whom! It's terrible! The other barb is always butting the others, but the big bulgy fish is a mystery. Point is, what is wrong AND i'm going to take the injured barb out and put it in a plastic container by itself (like they put 'em in the containers at walmart) and keep it hopefully in safe but suffice distance from a lamp. Will it be ok in the container...will its fins and tail grow back!? PLEASE PEOPLE!

Well I have both light and dark blue gravel in my tank, for some reason all the light blue gravel is starting to collect algae. I don't want to wash all the gravel, because I don't want to kill the bacteria I have built up.

Would it be safe to just take some of the gravel out, just the top level to clean it? What works best to kill the alage (what can I wash the gravel with)?

BUt i was wondering, every time i pour water in the tank like after a water change all my fish rush up to swim the current of the water all my fish do it(except my angels their preatty boaring) they swim swim swim then get pushed down thats when another fish comes up. My koi, white cloud minnows, guppies, goldfish, even oscar( they are all in diffrent tanks don't fret) so why do they do that? is it their entertainment?

I have "You & Your Aquarium" by Dick Mills. Its a really good thick little book with tons of info for the aquarists mind. The problem is its over 20 years old (published 1986) I need some updated info. Any good "up to date" books about aquariums?
It can have Marine & goldfish info in it too, I like reading about those.

If you look at my previous questions you can see I LOVE aquariums! Practically obsessed!
