They probably won't change color, or at least not much. Most mollies you buy at a pet store have a widely varied genetic background and can have babies that don;t look much like them at all. Also, they are usually pregnant when you buy them and the father could be any male in the tank or that was in the tank with her for the last several months. Talk about a mess genetically speaking.

I'm not an expert on this but it seems that the coloring may depend on the parents & grandparents. Don't think I remember seeing any lt brown mollies. They have so many different varieties out now. Black, albino, silver, gold, & spotted or speckled as some call them. Pot-bellied or balloon belly ( they look miserable-like blotted blimps). Not to mention the high fin & lyre tailed. Too confusing.

I have 2 sets of brother & sisters from different parents - 2 silver/white and 2 kinda orange, black & clear "speckely" - I gave away the others before the 2 boys developed so I thought I had 4 girls!!
My silver female had 3 fry the other day, one like her & the others seem to be a weird mix of silver and grey at the back and spots of orange at the front.
Watching my "speckelies" as they grew, - they didn't so much change colour as "adjusted" the area covered as they got bigger. Although I have to say on the male his colours seem to be stronger & more vibrant lately!

as soon as their size got bigger, i've got some platies who give birth to white and brown fries, but they soon changes color in about less than 1cm.
