In theory they could over eat, but I doubt you would ever see it in practice. In over 30 years of breeding fish I can't say that I have ever seen fry die of over eating.

Yes,they can overeat. They will eat as long as food is available but not the rotted food. You should NEVER overfeed. Fry should be fed 6 times a day, a small amount each time that they finish in 5 minutes max.
You do not say what kind of fry. If these are live bearers, esp. guppies, the females are already a "little pregnant. ."

I think to suppliment what MM said, in thoery yes. Alot of that is going to depend on the breed you have. Oscars are one breed that can as adult literally eat until they kill themselves. They are smart in some aspects, they know you after awhile, when your feeding, when your watching. I brought one of the six inch oscars that crashed my filter system back to the pet store. When I stop in for Crickets and guppies for my Datnoid and Arowana, she will still do her little dance for me lol. However, they are not smart enough to stop eating any excess food. I am thinking this is a breed issue, and therfore Oscar fry would do the same.

You also are going to want to consider fry are babies, and by instinct have an urgency to grow. That doesn't sound the way I want to say it, but I can't think of another way to say it. It's in thier nature? The are going to TEND to be aggressive eaters for a time. I'd follow MM on the time feeding, but one thing I find myself wondering....have you seperated the parents from the tank? Some like Mollies have a tendancy to eat thier fry.

yes animals over eat cause they anticipate a food drought when food is abundant. ween them off of such large portions and start feeding them healthier portions

Are they expensive? If not, then do an experiment. Keep feeding them until they explode! That would be really cool.
