Fish - March 2007

I woke up this morning & one of my male convicts has an ottocinclus (midget suckermouth cat) stuck in his mouth with the tail like 1/3 an inch out of his mouth.

They co-existed for about 3 months together & I fed the convicts the night before. They just had a litter of babies which might explain why he did it... They seem to get super retard powers the week surrounding when they have babies.

The otto seems to have a spiked umbrella type skin that makes him not want to go one way.

I had this problem once before with a younger Oscar who's eyes were bigger than his stomach. I pulled it out with pliars, but it dislocated his jaw for about 2 weeks.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing with the convict. How long should I wait until I try and remove it from his mouth? He's still in good spirits, sparring with the other convict couple across the tank.

My dwarf Puffer Fish eats a lot and after he eats his stomache bloats up like he is pregnant. Well, he got bigger than normal and swam through a hole in his hide and seek rock and it stuck. I have waited for about an hour and he still can't get out. What would be the best way to help him get out with out hurting him, or should I wait for him to finish diagesting the fish first. He is really distressed~!~

The tank is a ten gallion with 6 Neon Tetras (large) and two Danio's. I recently learned that the Danios were schooling fish but since I am getting a small alge eater in a month or so when the alge builds up I am pretty sure the tank is full.
---

I know they are small and its one inch of fish for every gallon, but considering the rocks on the bottom take up room and the decorations I am unsure if i should get three more to let them school.
---

Also, one of the Danio's just swims above the heater, even when I am feeding the other fish, the other Danio comes and feeds with the tetras but the one by the heater doesnt. He's been like that a couple of days and he is still very much alive, so maybe he is catching flake that the Tetras are not seeing or something, I worrie that he is starving himself.
---

I understand as stated above that more fish might be to much for the tank, but would they beable to deal with more fish if it keeps the danio happy enough to eat?

My poor fish! I don't know what I'm doing. The water gets murky with in a week after cleaning. I have a filter and use distilled water... What else do I need to do? They have started to get these little white spots on them and I don't know what to do! Or what to get to prevent this?

I have just brought a fish tank last week, 60l with heater, filter and light.
I left the (well) water in the for one week with a soloution to rid of any impurities, after this week i first put in 6 tetras 3 differnt kinds.
A few days later i put in 2 tetras fantasmas, 2 neons and 2 small white fish that eat from the bottom of the tank cant remember what they are called but they are only a little bigger then the teras.
now my question is do you think it is ok to put in 2 more neons and two fish that are about 5cm each very pretty again the names i cant remember but the next time i go the the shop i will ask.
I have only one fake plant at the mo but will be puttin a real one in hopefully this weekend so the tank is pretty much empty so as alot of space but as time go by i will be incresing the amount of aguatic plants.
thankyou for reading through it all

I dun understand what happened since he was still healthy this morning. But after I got home from school tonight, he was floating on top (usually he would be sleeping at the bottom) and find it hard to swim or stay down. I fed him 2 extra betta bites this morning (usually 3-4, today 6 cause he looks so hungry). Did I over fed? Is this why his belly looks swollen?! This is my first time having a betta and its only been 2 healthy months...I hope he'd be fine...He isn't floating on one side, he is just in normal position except on the surface of the water. What should I do??

I bought a goldfish today, and he has one regular yellow eye with a black pupil and his other eye has a black pupil as well, but the iris is almost as dark as the pupil? Is this normal, or is it something I should be concerned about?

We recently picked up two female platy fish (I didn't realize they were female at the time). We already had two male platy fish in there. The female fish don't seem very active (we've had them for a few days, so they should be used to the tank by now), they just tend to hide a bunch, but they do come out and eat, and both seem to have quite an appetite.

Is this just the way female platys act, or is having the males and females in the same tank making them act funny? Should there be more males, or more females or is the same amount fine?
