We recently picked up two female platy fish (I didn't realize they were female at the time). We already had two male platy fish in there. The female fish don't seem very active (we've had them for a few days, so they should be used to the tank by now), they just tend to hide a bunch, but they do come out and eat, and both seem to have quite an appetite.

Is this just the way female platys act, or is having the males and females in the same tank making them act funny? Should there be more males, or more females or is the same amount fine?

my female platy used to hide aswell, i think the male one would chase her. so i added another female and he chased them both, now i have 4 female and hes the one hiding! are you sure the female isnt pregnant? they hide when they are. if you have male and female platies they will breed alot. ive now got 36 babies ... so be prepared as to what you want to do if she is pregnant, if you dont want them the fish will most likely eat them all.

My fish were like that too. It wasn't until we added different fish, that they got more comfortable. Maybe you should add some more females.
