Hello. I have a ten gallon planted tank with some danios and amano shrimp. The plants include some crypts, java fern, a mini anubias and some dwarf sagittaria. The plants are doing well but the tank isn't as lush as I would like it. Would adding CO2 be okay? I heard that its harder to control water parameters in a small tank. Another issue concerns the shrimp. Are they going to be okay? Is the lighting enough with a single full spectrum fluorescent bulb? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2 medium-large size tanks. The 29 gallon has algea on the glass that is very difficult to remove while the 120 gallon tank tends to get algea that is easy to move.

Are there any kind of plecos or catfish that will help with these algeas?? I here otto catfish are good for it and the algea on the plants.

Thanks for help.

I was at the beach one day when a fish had washed up (alive in the tides) It was small (about 3 inches), light green in color and had three large, black, almost diamond shaped markings on its side. It was quite tropical looking but this was the Jersey shore.

I've already lost one fish. I only had two small platties in my 5 gal. tank. I've done regular 25% water changes. Is it okay to use a water detoxifier?? If so what? Is there a way I can get the levels down without adding a bunch of chemicals to the water? I don't want to lose my other fish!

Hi, I have a 40 gallon tank, I have a great filter, the emperor 400, which works up to 80 gallons.

I am brand new to the fish/tank game and I would like to know...I change the filter cartridges every few weeks but I also need to change 25-50% of the water from the tank...now this might be a very stupid question, but how do i get the water out of the tank? since i cant simply lift the tank, what are the usual ways to get the water out....

especially for people with 50, 80, 100 gallon tanks....thank you for your answers.

I noticed two of my corys have a sections of fin/tail missing. One is missing a strip on his tail and another is missing a chunk on his dorsal fin, this one has also been lying still(more than usual). Firstly, Does this sound like fin rot? How should I go by treating this?

I have a 150 gal tank. PH is 8, nitrate is 20ppm, nitrite and ammonium are 0. I have two types of shrimp, a sand sifting and a serpent star. Along with 4 different snails and 3 different crabs. All are living creat along with the four different corals I have. I have added fish and some live and some die. My clownfish, Cardinal fish as well as my basslet are living well, but I have lost a Jawfish, a foxface, two blennys and a copperbanded butterfly (I do have plenty of aiptasia in the tank for it to feed on). I cannot figure ot why these specific fish are dying and why some are not. The lighting is 3 250W MH along with PC and moonlights at night. The temp is between 76 and 81. There is a 55gal refugium. I also have a fluval 404 on the system. In addition, the tank has 100lbs of crushed coral, 200lbs of live sand, 250lbs of live rock and a proteint skimmer. The Ref has 90lbs of fiji mud, 50 lbs of curshed oyster, 50 lbs live rock and a protein skimmer. Any help would be great

Are these based on number of answers given, number of best answers, or what? Will these bias "best answer" choices in favor of more "long-term contributors" over new folks? Does it lead questioners to favor number of answers over quality of answers? How do you feel about these?

my friend is doing a boy scout thing where he has to take care of 3 fish for 30 days but he feeds them too much and he hasnt changed the water in 2 weeks . it smells horrible. His family know nothing about fish and when i try to tell him he needs to change the water he ignores me .How do i tell him he has to do this. When i helped him set up the tank he added dirty rocks and sandy coral to the tank when i told him not to .Then I said that he shouldnt have done that and all he said was well if the fish die its your fault.

I have a number of platy fry in a 10 gal tank. Some appear to have swollen bellies with long pale strings of fecal matter. There doesn't appear to be any other signs of infection: no protruding scales, no pop eye, no ulcers nor reddish areas.
The tank is well maintained with weekly water changes. The tank has been set up more than a year. The water quality is fine. And, there are no other fish in this tank.
Any thoughts on this?
