Salt water filter help?

Question

I had a guy from the pet store come clean my tank yesterday because i did not have time. Well he starts cleaning and it was not that dirty anyway he then tells me i dont have enough filtration in my tank ,It`s a 75 gallon salt water tank and this is what i have for filters . I have a canistor cascade 1500 and also a cascade 1000 with a protein skimmer and 2 power heads . I have never had any sick fish or lost a fish. Please tell me this guy does not know what he is talking about

That sounds like more than enough filtration to me (although your powerheads don't provide any filtration, fyi).
Maybe he meant you didn't have enough Live Rock?

Or maybe he just wanted to sell you something ;)

As long as you have filtration that turns over 5 to 10 times your tank volume every hour, you have enough (unless your tank is severely overstocked!). So, for a 75 gallon, you'd want your combined filter ratings to be 375 - 750 gallons per hour. For salt, I'd go for the upper end of the range for higher current production and better filtration. Still, what you have sounds good to me.

Maybe he's just trying for a commission if he sells you something!

I agree with copper head here.

5-10 times turn over is where you need to be, so filtering closer to 750 gal Live rock Doesn't filter water and plays no role when talking about GPM or GPH on filters. Your set up sound perfect for a 75.

this guy is crazy they will try to tell you anything to get you to spend more money of course if you worked in the same place you might just do the same find another person to deal with

Live rock is more important than huge filters.
