The tetra is stressed. It needs to be with more of its own kind. Do not mix goldfish and tropicals.

Doubt it's about grieving but more likely it's the water condition-that may have caused the death of the previous fish, is not being treated yet. You better treat the water fast before you 'see' another buddy following him.

It sounds like you have a problem with your water quality. Check the PH and Ammonia levels. If you get them stabilized the fish should be doing better. If the tetra ends up dong better you should think about getting it more friends because tetras like to be in groups.

AMONIA
change 1/4 of your water every 30 days. no more - no less
be sure to siphon from the lower 1/4 of your tank. amonia is heavier than water and sinks.
