Angels generally do best kept in a small grow of 4-6 or one one fish per tank. 2-3 fish isn't a good idea as too much fighting and nipping of the smallest or weakest can occur. For a single angel a 30 - 40 gallon tank would be the minimum. For a fair sized group you would want a 70 - 90 gallon or more.

Angels do well in a planted tank and don't do much damage at all. They are one of the better large cichlids for a planted tank.

Gravel doesn't matter much unles you are keeping plants.

Here's a link with lots of good info on angels:

well as you will here from all the other people you may not want to listen, i am no expert in angles but i know everything about goldfish and koi. But i have had angels before and from what i can tell you i had 4 in a 15 gallon tank the tempature at 77F and all angels lived full lives i bought them around an inch and they grew to become 4 inches wide and lived for 5 years no prob, i gave then to my cousin and they are still as happy as ever in his 30 gallon tank. But what i am saying is i don't always follow those rules and stuff, i put alittle more fish in a tank then i should. For the amonut of gravel i had a 1 inch i found it worked well. Also my angels loved swimming through the plants so i'm guess ing to get one just not to big. I also had a bubbler but i don't think you need that it was just for show. oh yea one last thing if you really want to breed them you should get about 4 like i did when little they will part their buddies. But i never saw the mating thing so i can't help you there. Good Luck :)

well all i can tell you is i have had this one angel fish for over 4 years now & he is doing great. I have a 20 gallon tank, about 2 inches of rocks & a couple of plastic plants. You need to keep the water temp between 75 & 80, as they are tropical fish. Angel fish can be a bit agressive, they like to let the other fish know who's boss, but nothing to worry about too mucch there. mostly they will just chase other fish around.

Well, there's lots of great information online about angelfish, so I suggest you do a search on them and see what you can come up with.

In brief, though, angelfish are South American cichlids. They are pretty placid so are fine for community tanks provided that they aren't kept with fish small enough to be eaten (such as young neon tetras).
Angels are schoolers per se, but they enjoy being in groups if possible - but if you don't have room for more than 3, only get one, because if you have a group of 2 or 3, the bigger fish can pick on the weakest fish - unless you have a breeding pair, then they can go together.
For each angelfish, alloit 10 gallons of water on top of 20 gallons. So for one angel, 30 gallons. For two, 40 gallons. For 6 angelfish, 80 gallons.

Angelfish love plants, particular Amazon Sword plants, to simulate the environment they come from. The depth of gravel doesn't really matter, but 2 inches is good, particularly if you want plants.

The water temperature should be around 78F. In nature, the pH of their water would be around 6.5, but angelfish are extremely adaptable and can tolerate a much higher pH than that, so don't worry about your pH levels.

Your tank should have a good filter on it to keep the water clean for them, and before you get them, you must properly cycle your tank. A 25% water change should be done a weekly basis to keep the water clean.

angels like to have plants they should have at least a 30 Gal tank you need to make sure that the water is soft or low pH levels try using black water extract or peet moss to soften the water and to make it more like the amazon river where they are from
