a large white spot could be a type of fungus. Go to your local fish store (prefferably a store that deals ONLY in fish) and see what meds they recomend. If it is fungus, you prolly want to treat the whole tank beacause the other fish will likely get it too.

Did your angelfish have any spots on him?

Check the Betta and see if he has just the one white spot or more of them. If he is covered in them, and they look like grains of salt, then it is Ick, or white spot, and meds for that can be bought in the fish store

If it is only one white spot on the head that looks a bit like cotton, then it's most likely a fungus. Did your Betta become less active and a little pale or stopped eating? Those are also signs of fungus.

Interpet do something called 'Aquarium Treatment No 10 - Methylene Blue' which works wonders when it comes to fungus and can be bought in almost any pet store.

I used it on some gourami babies I raised and it turned the water blue and discoloured the rubber seals on the fish tank but saved my babies' lives.

In any case, isolate the sick fish. then do a water change of at least 25% on your tank and treat the tank as well as the sick fish to make sure the fungus doesn't spread.

Good luck and email me if you need help diagnosing your Betta illness

It could be white spot (itch) or other parasite. It cuases the fish to swim rapidly and rub themselves on decorations, according to the information I was given, but my fish seemed to be listless and hide in the plants and ornaments.Did your angel fish have any spots? If you think it may be this you can buy a remody in pet shops which you add to your tank every two days until the spots have gone and for two days after this. It worked pretty well when we used it, but we lost two silver sharks and two tetras first. In my experience a poorly looking fish doesn't last too long as the other fish bully them.
Good luck with your poorly fighter, it's a shame they are beautifull fish.

if its on his eye, than its exthalmous, and you can get Melafix...if it turns into more than one white spot, it can be a sign of Ich...if you have more than one fish in the tank, i would recommend treating the entire tank to be safe. Also add some Salt for electrolytes and Stress Zyme to help coat the skin and rid some of the diseases...Hope this is a help...I would also try to change some of the water (not a lot as it will add stress to a sick fish) maybe 10% before your treatment, unless its really bad then start treatment ASAP and do a water change in a day or so...hope this helps...good luck!

Fungal infections are common in tropical fish. Clean you tank, change the filter and contact you local tropical fish retailer for advise. Vets dont generally know much about fish and you can buy medicines over the counter for them from the pet shop. If possible isolate the poorly fish away from the others in case its infectious!! Good look I hate having to flush them away.

i see as always people are telling you it's ick. they have heard the word because it's a common disease. for everyone that suggested it's ick- if you read this- ick looks grains of salt on your fish, and usually cover the body, in extreme cases. you will see it on the fins first.
you said that it's a white spot on it's head.
my friend- you have a fungus problem- treat tank for that.
remember remove carbon from filter before treating.

sounds like you might have ICK in your tank. Ick is white spots on your fish and can kill them quickly.

this sounds like cotton disease, visit your nearest aquarium and explain to them whats going on and they will advise you, you must do it before all your fish become effected.
