Your ammonia should never go above 1. the goal is to have 0 or as close as possiable. (However remember if you are using test strips some test strips are geared for average percents or PPM's) If your's is reading elevated chances are it is much higher than you think. Check your directions on your testing kit since each one works differently.

2 is the max and as with all fish, even that is high.

If your ammonia is above 2 or your strips say that it is high, you need to do a water change to help flush out the ammonia.

Sorry Redz, I just read your other questions. Your tank is WAY too new and has yet to complete its cycling process.

Here read this and understand the process for healthy fish:

The best level for ammonia in a tank is zero. Until your tank cycles it will have some ammonia in it but as long as that stays below the danger zone your test indicates your ok.

The best way by far to reduce ammonia is to change water. Change enough water to get the ammonia back well below the danger level and continue to do this each day until the ammonia is being controlled by the bacteria in the tank.

The ammonia test kit will help you alot.
The ammonia levels in a tank should not be much higher than .5 parts per million as it would be lethal.
The best way to take care of ammonia is by preforming a water change of at least 25% and depending on your levels up to a 50% water change.

As MM mentioned, zero is the safest level. Doing water changes as he suggested is the only way to control ammonia until the tank cycles.
