Overall what's easier? What's cheaper? Just 2 of each in a 5 gallon.

ok, so i have a few questions:
1. Do fish feel pain when they are nipped at or their fins get shredded by other fish?
2. Can fish regrow damaged fins?
3. Can fish learn to swim with a damaged fin if they can't regrow it?

i got a molly without a tail... :(

I found little spots on one of my fish's fins. I know enough to know it's either Ick or Velvet - how do you tell the difference? And if its velvet, how do you treat it?

I have a beta fish, and i am almost positive he has dropsy, i know that Kanacyn is known to help but the closest place that i can think of that would have it, is around 100miles away, none of the vets here have it, and say just flush him, he is just a fish, but i dont want to do that if he can get better, he is my desk mate at work and helps me with my day, does anyone know of something that can be gotten at petco or petsmart that can help with this problem?

I have recently been given a fifteen gal tak which measures 19 inches tall and 13 inches across. The hood on the tank was COMPLETELEY broken and in no condition for useage. All glass no longer makes hoods for this tank. So i decided to diy it. Got glass cut for the top and purchaced a 12 inch hood which fit perfectley once you factor in the switch on the side. However i cannot find a bulb which is A)powerful enough for my tank and b) provides my plants with the light they need to prosper. 12 inch hoods only come with the screw in bulbs, and i already checked home depot for an alternative. HELP!

I want a 20 gallon tank. I might also consider getting a 40 gallon tank. I want a nice aquarium with one betta fish and a few other pretty fish. Also some plants and all that. Filters, light, etc. How much will it all cost? And how many [and what type] fish should I get? I really want a African Dwarf Frog in there and those other fish or whatever they are that like clean the tank or something xD So I guess I want a 20-40 gallon tank with a betta fish, an African Dwarf Frog, and probably a couple of the ones I mentioned earlier. What kind of other fish could go in there? And is that a good size tank for them? Also how much will everything cost all together?

My pleco is about 10 inches long in a 20 gallon tank, which includes some guppies as well, and it is now floating in the tank in a vertical position. It is still alive and the guppies show no signs of poisoning from either nitirite, nitrate, ammonia, or any other toxin. I did a 75% water change yesterday and added chemicals last night to eliminate any nitrite/nitrate/ammonia in the water. What is wrong with the pleco?

This is what happened. My tank was getting a little cloudy at the top 8". The tank is 30" high. I have 4 fish in there. Someone told me just buy Clear Water solution so I did. I followed the instructions and now my water is Yellow and more cloudy than ever. I don't understand what this product is suppose to do. Now do I have to empty the tank. It's a big job and not sure where to start. What can I do to save the water?

i started a new aquarium 5 gallons and i bought 1 male betta, 10 baby gold fishes, and i saw the fish and it drove me nuts so i had to buy it, the shark catfish. i asked the petshop owner how big will it grow. his answer was being that, thats a small tank he wont grow to big.. and he stated they grow based on there enviroment. so i bought the big guy. he is about 2 inches long and when it comes to meal time lol he really chows down.. my concern is that i have been reading online about this shark fish now and they all say he will grow really big.. in my small tank will he still get that big?

I got some of those little tanks that you can put 2 betas in but they are divided. I plan on keeping the divider covered so that they don't see each other. I'll be gone for over a week so I'm taking them with me. Do you think that these will be okay for about a week? They normally each have their own tank, but since it's a temporary arrangement and I don't have room to take all 4 big tanks I'm hoping this isn't too mean!

I know, the "rule of thumb" says 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. it is said to keep only 3 fish in a 5 gal tank. But i want to keep more in my five gal tank. I know i'll overcrowed my tank, but if i keep my tank maintanced more often, it should not be a problem. I'm going to keep fishes that are 1 inch or less. All i'm basicly going to keep are fancy guppies (without their tail, they are barely 1 inch long). So what is the maximum number of fish I can keep in my tank?

I have had my Striped Raphael Catfish for about 3 days now and when i was researching on the computer about how they need a hiding place or they will get stressed, i went out and got him a little cave to hide in. he doesnt use it. i know hes seen it because he has just sat infront of it for a bout an hour yesturday. Why wont he go inthere. Its not to small because it is large enough to fit about 3 of him. and also i saw him at the petstore squeezed into a small hold in a pirate ship so obviously he doesnt care about room. I got him because he seemed diffrent. HELP ME

My friend has a 4" jewel fish and it has some holes in its head. He tried used a medicine called general cure which contains 125 mg of metronidazole. Is this enough of a dose or do we need a stronger medicine? It is in a quarantine tank by itself with a cave and three plants. It is very nervous and is lethargic. Will it die of starvation before it is cured? Please help.

Hi - I can't get the wheel in the filter to run (i.e. turn). I cleaned everything up with water only, wet the new (blue) filter and installed it blue-side up (the only way it would fit into the unit) and now, although the unit is buzzing quietly, the wheel won't turn. It's been stored for probably about 3 or so years. Do I need to get a new wheel? A whole new filter system? Maybe is it not sucking up water (doesn't appear to be doing that - the holding area where the blue filter is sitting isn't filling up).

I never was the one who took care of the acquarium. Trying to do this for a special thing for the kids but can't get it working. Any help or tips appreciated. Thanks so much!!
