I have had my Striped Raphael Catfish for about 3 days now and when i was researching on the computer about how they need a hiding place or they will get stressed, i went out and got him a little cave to hide in. he doesnt use it. i know hes seen it because he has just sat infront of it for a bout an hour yesturday. Why wont he go inthere. Its not to small because it is large enough to fit about 3 of him. and also i saw him at the petstore squeezed into a small hold in a pirate ship so obviously he doesnt care about room. I got him because he seemed diffrent. HELP ME

You can't force him to use the tank exactly how you plan, but in this case you might consider that a cave that 3 of him can fit into is too big to really feel secure - he probably liked the pirate ship at the store because of how tight and secure it was. I always provide a number of various sized spots for my catfish and other cave dwellers, that way they can choose.

Sometimes it just take a fish a while to get around to settling in. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If he feels stressed and wants to hide he will make use or the place you provided for him.

you got him from a pet store who knows how long he has been squeezing in and out of that small space before you came along he prob. just needs time to ajust to his new surroundings and the extra room
