This is what happened. My tank was getting a little cloudy at the top 8". The tank is 30" high. I have 4 fish in there. Someone told me just buy Clear Water solution so I did. I followed the instructions and now my water is Yellow and more cloudy than ever. I don't understand what this product is suppose to do. Now do I have to empty the tank. It's a big job and not sure where to start. What can I do to save the water?

I have a carbon filter and the instructions on the Clear Water solution says to remove the charcoal for this treatment so I replaced the carcoal with the same kind of natural gravel that is at the bottom of the tank.

You are probably having a bacterial or algae bloom. Do your best to fix this becasue it may end up killing your fish.
1) as suggested before-get some carbon in your filter if you don't already have it.
2) Check to make sure that your tank isn't getting extra sunlight. Now that its starting to get brighter longer, algae could be your cluprit. Usually water gets foggy before it turns green. If only the top of your tank was looking foggy the problem probably was algae, try cutting down on the ammount of time your light is on.
3) if you can't fix it, get your fishy friends into a hospital tank and drain that thing!

Also if you haven't already done so purchace an aquarium siphon. And get all of the drudge out of your rocks. By removing the gunk you are removing bacteria and paricites. And don't forget to add aquarium salt to your tank (Yes even fresh water fish need a little salt!) this will help to keep bacteria in check.

Your tank could be cloudy for a number of reasons. Bacterial bloom and algae bloom have already been mentioned, and are real possibilities if the tank was just set up recently. So are dust in the gravel, buildup of fish wastes, and discoloration from driftwood, if you have any in your tank. I'm leaning toward they latter two items because you mention that the water is yellow.

Please refer to this link to figure out the cause. You shouldn't need to do a full water change - this can only hurt any cycling your tank has already done. http://www.fishlore.com/CloudyWater.htm

In the future, try to to rely on chemical "fixes" - they won't solve all problems, and are temporary solutions at best - it would be better to figure out the cause of a problem and work at fixing that. There's plenty of info in the website above to help you there.

Good luck!

Your water is probably cloudy because it has a bacterial bloom. I reccomend leaving the water in the tank as long as the fish don't seem to be suffering, and doing a 25% water change every 3 days. Only in an emergency do you want to change all the water. The bacteria should settle down in about 2 weeks

Buy a carbon based filter. Thye're around 10-12 dollars at walmart and they work really well. The same thing happened to me and now my tank is good. you still have to clean the walls but I only have to change the water about every 8 months,Just becasue it get gross when you think about all the stuff that's in the water! :(
