Fish - March 2007

I have been trying to feed her peas like everyone has told...but she can not eat the peas since they just float to the bottom and she is on the top of the water belly side up....how do i get her to eat the peas?

Actually I'm very glad to see all of you here today. You've saved me at least 20 points for questions I no longer have to ask.

Also congratulations magic man on making it to number one.

I do have one question though. I'm in the habit of using two filters in most of my tanks, an under gravel filter and a power filter that hangs on the back of the tank, do you guys think this is overkill?

Ok i got my tank set up its 160 gal and its going to be my reef tank , I have a saltwater fish only tank that i have had for awhile and i know what i`m doing there . Is there anything i should know about these reef tanks . Like how many power heads or should i set up a wave maker and so on , I have been reading alot online but the answers are not always the same . I guess i need alot of current in the tank. To this point i have added all my live rock 300 pounds of it and i have added a few power heads also do i need more and what elsa should i have. I guess i feel kind dumb coming here to ask but i have had some questions well answered here.

ok so now i know the sex of my platies and i knw tht the one is defo preggers, now i need to knw wen i shud place the pregnant female in2 a hatcher? also is it fairly easy to look after the fry as im no expert, as ive only bin doing this for 4weeks lol how long do i keep the fry in the hatcher and do i need to remove the mother after she as given birth? any guildence would be gr8. thank you

Okay, for a "REAL" question - what's the name for the color pattern of bettas where the scales are outlined in a different color? Someone asked this in a previous edit and I don't think you caught it - maybe I'll go back and reword your answer plus the added info and get THOSE 10 pts. away from you at least! Think I know, but I've only seen the term applied to yellows, so want to check if it applies to all colors before I answer.

I have a 55 gallon tank with the following occupants:

(from smallest to largest)
5-white tetras adults

2-Dwarf Neon Rainbows (1-2 inches)

3-Australian Rainbows (3-5inches each)

3-Loaches (2 YoYos & 1 Burmese Boarder)

1-Spotted Angelicus Cat (approx. 3-4 inches)

1-Featherfin Squeaker (approx. 6 inches)

1-Butterfly Pleco (approx. 8-9 inches including tail)

=equalling approx. 37 inches of fish total.

I preform water changes at least once a week, sometimes twice. There are 3 medium sized rocks and one 14 inch piece of driftwood in there.
I want to get 2 or 3 Bosemani Rainbows, and another 2 or 2 Dwarf Neon Rainbows.

I bought my female and male molly on Monday. Today, she gave birth to 5 babies. She is definatly thinner than she was, but I'm not sure if I should take her out just yet. Its been 3 hours since I awoke to the five babies in the breeder tank. How soon should I move the female back to the home tank and how soon should I feed the babies? And what should I feed them. I've heard powdered flake food works well.

I saved this beta from the pet store last night (I couldn't help myself) but the tank that he is to go in has only been set up for about 18 hours. The thing is, the water that he is in now is disgusting. My water is properly conditioned and betas are pretty hardy fish.... and I have added some water from my other beta tanks. Do you think it would be okay to get him out of his nasty little bowl the store left him in?

My fantail goldfish I believe was overfed...she is still alive and trying to swim right but can not. I do not know what I should do...and if you only have something negative to say do not respond!!! I want to know what i should do should she live for another day. She can still breath and everything.. but is beely side up :(

I have a calico fantail, a golden fantail, a black moore, and a shubunkin. I'm pretty sure that the shubunkin isn't going to breed, but will the others. They have the same body styles so I was just wondering. I'm not wanting to breed them, just curious.

I only eats it off of the wall and the inside of the rocks, but it there doesn't appear to be any algae there at all. On top of the rocks it is getting pretty green, but I'm afraid to take it out and clean it because it took me 2 months to get enough algae in there to keep him from starving. I had to supplement him with algae pellets. It seems as if as soon as I got the algae started it took off though and he isn't really doing his job.

My goldfish is in a tank that is too small...i can't get a bigger one since i dont have the space. She is gasping for oxygen (see other questions) and i need to do something. I figured that i could bring her back to petco where there will be a filter and a bigger tank. I have grew greatly attached to the goldfish, but i don't wanna see her suffer. What should i do?

ive jus set up a aqurium, ive got 15 fish had them about a week. ive got two red platies and two blue platies, my two blue platies arent showing much colour yet, but one of them has become really fat in the belly, im not sure if its a he or she, the other platie follows it every wer, its still eating and everythink but how do i knw if it is preggers? plz help

people say bag them? cooler them with air stones? They are 10 to 20 inches long about 5 years old. I'm going after them because no one wants them, they need a home! My pond has no fish. It's 18x32 so 8 fish should be no problem. But the shipping (moving) the fish I need help with. How to move them so they make it! HELP...
