I have a calico fantail, a golden fantail, a black moore, and a shubunkin. I'm pretty sure that the shubunkin isn't going to breed, but will the others. They have the same body styles so I was just wondering. I'm not wanting to breed them, just curious.

They will all interbreed. I have a pond full of the offspring of moors, calicos, dragon eyes, fantails, veil tails, a couple of comets, etc. They're all mixed up and some of the offspring are prettier than the parents, IMO. (Comets are single-tail goldfish but their tails and fins are extra long.)

The shubunkin is just a common goldfish with different scale colors. He will be your most prolific breeder. If he is male you will need to be sure he isn't too rough with your female fantails. Shubunkins can swim faster and swifter than the fantails, and their mating process involves males bashing the females in the side after chasing them around. If you see this happening might consider a second tank for the shubunkin with another single tail goldfish. (I firmly believe they do better in groups of more than one, despite the fact that they are often sold singly.)

All goldfish will breed with all other goldfish, they will even breed with koi. It's a good thing you don't plan on breeding since your tank is grossly over stocked. You will need a 60 gallon tank just for the fancies and the shubunkin should really be in a pond. Each of your fancy goldfish can get 8-12 inches long and the shubunkin can get 12-18 inches but if you keep them all in your 10 gallon they not only will stunt but they may not even live long enough and will die from toxic water.

All goldfish, commons and fancies, are genetically the comparable fish, Carassius auratus. it is in basic terms a distinctive phenotype on each and every fish which ends up in the various distinctive kinds of goldfish, from fancies to commons. an extra undemanding thank you to comprehend it extremely is by finding a mammalian occasion. canines case in point. all distinctive breeds of canines are all the comparable animal genetically, however the way their genes are expressed can get you a small Poodle or a great German Shepard. because of the fact all goldfish are the comparable fish by genetics, they have particularly comparable care, yet can no longer consistently be mixed mutually in a tank. the flowery transformations are gotten by selective breeding and frequently have mutations which supply them their unique look. The fan tail case in point might look alluring to a individual, yet to the fish, it extremely is a handicap. It swims slower. as a results of this, it is no longer smart to domicile fancy goldfish with commons. The commons improve plenty larger and are swifter, and finally end up surely out competing fancies for nutrition and likewise bullying them. So a time-honored rule of thumb you are able to persist with is: Commons with commons in basic terms, and fancies with fancies in basic terms. what's significant right it extremely is you purchase the the perfect option sized tank and filtration on your goldfish. A 30 gallon could be stable for a single fancy (in basic terms one!!!) and a fifty 5-seventy 5 gallon could be mandatory for a single undemanding. you will no longer get all the counsel you choose right here. it extremely is optimal in case you study up a e book on effectively housing goldfish. once you're going for commons, you extremely could be putting them in a pond, no longer a tank.
