I have an aquarium with baby mollies, guppies and mickey mouse fish. today suddenly i noticed that there are millions of white small worms sticking to the glass. I figured that i must have been overfeeding in my enthusiasm of feeding them several times a day. I have 2 questions

1. how much is enough for a month old babies - about 50 of them

2. how do i get rid of the worms? one suggestion i read was to stop feeding altogether for about 4-5 days but is that a good idea with babies?

10 adolescent platy, 1 Peppered Cory, 3 Bronze Cory, 1 Female Betta, 1 Fancy Guppy, 2 Feeder Guppies, 2 Coolie Loaches.

I found this on the internet and it immediately struck me as grossly overstocked. The kuhli loaches alone can get to around four inches apiece. The betta gets to around 2 inches and the cories get to about one and a half to two inches each. That adds up to seventeen inches without the platies and guppies.

Hi We have always kept coldwater fish and now want to expand into tropicals. We only have room for a small tank and have bought one that is 20 inches wide x 10 inches deep x 12 inches high which the man in the pet shop said would be enough to keep small fish.

I am assuming that the tank has to cycle - the same as coldwater - and this is being done at the moment.

What I want to know is what kind of tropical fish could I keep in this tank, how many etc. I want something that is easy to look after and something that doesn't breed like rabbits!

I am trying to breed my pale grey with pale aqua fin female (?? I dont really know how to describe her) with my gorgeous dark blue and striking turquoise shiny tailed male. What colours can I expect? Also, how do I tell if my fry are male or female so I can seperate them, and when do they show their colours?
Thanks!

I just picked up a 22lb. bag of gravel. It looks pretty similar to marine gravel. Small white pebbles, most are porous. It says on the bag "safe for any aquarium" I'm kinda worried its gonna screw up my ph and kill my plants. Does anyone else use gravel like this?

Every time I go to petco I just have to "save" the fish that look like they are doing really bad. Recently they have been taking such poor care of their betas. I saved 2 in the past 2 days. Their water was nasty and smelly and they only had enough water to cover them fully, but no more. Anyone else have this same problem? (I have to keep buying new tanks for this reason)

On the bright side, my older fish that I have saved are so healthy and thriving. My betas have BEAUTIFUL color and full tails. It makse me consider someday opening up a pet store!

A few days ago, I had to do an experiment at school where each students takes a goldfish and puts it in room temperature water, then in ice water, and then hot water.

The idea was to find the fish's respiration rate.

The teacher said that it wouldn't harm the goldfish, but they definitely didn't seem happy about it, and mine was swimming upside down for a while during the hot water part.

Is the considered cruelty, or is it no worse for the fish than swimming in a lake all year?

Have you tried this vacation feeder? Did you like it? What size did you use and how many fish did it feed? For how long? Does it live up to the manufacturer's claim to not cloud water (and not throw the aquarium chemistry off balance)?

Thanks!

I am trying to find the right fish to keep with my Betta. I tried 2 Neons, but he bullied them, kept them from feeding and they died. I put in 2 Sunburst Platys, and 1 died when I changed the water. Now I put in a Corydora, and I am almost positive he is nipping his fins. How do I get him to stop? I took the Corydora out and put him in the very small Betta tank I put them in when I change the water. Can I put him back in knowing he won't hurt my Betta? The Corydora is very high energy and swims all over the tank. Should I take him back to the store and buy a better suited fish that doesn't nip? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

i have had it for almost a year and it has never done this. It is floating in the tank in a vertical position and only moves when touched. then it will swim down to the bottom or side, try to suck on the ground or glass, then let go and go back to floating. Whats wrong?

I had 5 goldfish in my Marineland Eclipse System 12 tank with 3 stage filtration.
http://www.marineland.com/products/consumer/con_systems.asp
Two are stuck down by the filter thingy. Two are floating on top not doing much of anything.
One I have no idea where he went to. Do you think I should feed them more, so they have more "pep" like they did in the store?

i bought 4 pieces of driftwood from a pet store for my 50 gallon tank. they were piled up in a corner of the pet store and were kept dry.
when i got home i decided to immerse them in water before actually put them in the tank. they've been there for two days now but the still tend to float...
is there something i should do to make them absorb more water so that they'd sink or did i buy the wrong kind of wood?

I own a sarassa goldfish, and we've had him for a good 3 years now. Recently I've noticed he has red scales. Before his tail had red streaks on his tail, but we tried to treat it with medicine and nothing happened. We assumed it to be a color change and ignored it. Now he has red scales near the top fin on his left side. Whats wrong with my goldfish?!

I have 20 gallon fish tank with two Oscars, they are still small, and i notice that the water level goes down about 1 cm every four days, i have checked over and over and nothing is leaking everything is OK, the temperature of the water is about 75- 79 or maybe even 80 f. could it be the temperature ? evaporation? i doubt it, i think its too much water missing for that temperature to b evaporating.

any help?

I have four platy fry in a breader net by themselves and it seems that I almost always have one or two of my adult platies biting at the net... Why do they do this? Most of the time the babies are hiding in the plants inside so I doubt that the adults can see them and are really trying to get at them... is there a chance they are just curious about the net or perhaps that I need to clean the net? I babies are about a week old and the net has been in there for as long as they have been alive... the curious biting at the net seems to have increased though over the last few days... Any guesses as to the reason for this behavior??
