I have 20 gallon fish tank with two Oscars, they are still small, and i notice that the water level goes down about 1 cm every four days, i have checked over and over and nothing is leaking everything is OK, the temperature of the water is about 75- 79 or maybe even 80 f. could it be the temperature ? evaporation? i doubt it, i think its too much water missing for that temperature to b evaporating.

any help?

Lol.. i think your joking. All tropical fish tanks evaporate even if your temperature is at 79 (which is high already)
1-oscars are supposed to be kept in 82 degrees btw.
2-dont worry about the water, its not leaking its merely evaporating
3-your 20 gallon tank is small, you will need atleast a 55 gallon even if they are small, because they do make a lot of waste and you tank will get really cloudy really fast.
4-add some water when it decreases and make sure you dechlorinate it.

its happening on the surface of water where there is gas exchange, however most in the form of evaporation. Say there's a thin layer of water on a glass table, just let it sit for a while, from time to time, you can see its shrinking, the same thing happen to the top layer of your tank. Oxygen in an oxidizer in some point. Dont worry its a good thing, its actually oxydizing the nitrates (NO3)that wont get cycled with regular filters (need plants or bubblers). It all happens on the surface.

so its all good, just add new water, your oscars will be much happier.

Evaporation, I had a 10 gallon and had to add about 1/2 gallon per week. Just make sure you have a good lid that covers as much of the tank as possible.

Good Luck

Evaporation is the least of your problem. Those Oscars will need at least 20 gallons each in a matter of weeks. Two Oscars in one tank? More likely than not, the stronger one will kill the weaker one.

the water in the tank is evaporating due to the warm temperature in your home. you could cover the top as much as you can to slow the evaporation rate.

my 10 gallon tank loses water more than my other larger tanks and i don't know why. everything seems to be fine. i just keep filling it up...1 cm isn't that much. you may worry if it increases to more than that.

It's evaporating, and if you have bubbles, that speeds it up! Put a cover on it.
