Have you tried this vacation feeder? Did you like it? What size did you use and how many fish did it feed? For how long? Does it live up to the manufacturer's claim to not cloud water (and not throw the aquarium chemistry off balance)?

Thanks!

Just to clarify, this is the "gel formula" feeder, not a mechanical feeder.

Thanks!

I haven't used anything like that in years and years. Back when I did though it did cloud the water and killed several fish. I don;t know if they still would or not, it could be the manufacturer has changed them since then. Personally, I wouldn't use one unless I really, really had to. Remember a healthy fish can go a week or more without food with no harmful effects. If you are going to be gone longer than that maybe you can ask a neighbor to feed the fish once or twice for you.

I have used all sorts of these vacation feeders. They are highly praised to not cloud water, but know that most of the time, they are designed for one type and size of food( example: flakes and not pellets). You can only use your tetravacation feeder for tetras. It will not feed anything else. They do not cloud water unless the feeder breaks and it over feeds your fish, in which case your fish will die. This does not happen usualy though, If i had to rate the product from one to ten i would give it a seven. It is very handy if you plan on going on a 5 day vacation, but for extended periods of time, they are no good.

I go away every weekend and I give my fish a "weekend feeder" made by wardley. You can get it at Petco or Wal-mart. They have never clouded the water, and like I said, I use them EVERY weekend. They are not gel. I think they are made of calcium. They are designed for any kind of fish and even a beta will eat it. I have never tried the kind that you are talking about, but I'm sure that if it is a gel it should be pretty good.

How long are you planning on being gone? These feeders will always overfeed your fish despite your best efforts or claims otherwise. Your fish can go for a week or more without being fed, and you'd be surprised how healthy the water is when you come back.

I have used on for a week before and had no trouble. First off, use only the recommended size for your tank. Fishes metabolism will slow down when food is scarce and will not harm them for a few days. You don't want to buy to large of one thinking it's not big enough. Just be sure to stick with a name brand one like Tetra and you"ll be fine.
