ok, so i have a few questions:
1. Do fish feel pain when they are nipped at or their fins get shredded by other fish?
2. Can fish regrow damaged fins?
3. Can fish learn to swim with a damaged fin if they can't regrow it?

Your poor fishy! I don't think fish can feel pain the way we do, but she probebly noticed that someone was biting her tail. A friend of mine had some tetras that would bite each other and the fins grew back. He had a couple of catfish too and one really tok a big bite out of the other ones tail one time so the whole fin was gone. That one didn't grow back :((. He could still swim, but he swam kinda funny after that and was slow. Maybe it depends on what kind of fish or how much of the tail it lost. I fell really bad about your molly though.

A fish's tail is like the white part of our finger nails. There are very few nerves in them, so they feel little or no pain. All fish can regrow fins, as long as they aren't missing all of it. I have never heard of a fish swimming without a tail. But I'm sure it could happen. Fish are great at adapting to new situations. I'm positive your Molly will get along quite well without it.

They would feel very little if any pain from a damaged fin as long as it's not into the fishes flesh. The actual fin contains very few nerves.

Yes, they can regrow fins as long as the fleshy part isn't too damaged. It takes a while, but it does grow back.

I don't think anyone knows the answer. But I think any living thing can feel pain. I have read on the internet and had experience with a beta, (my goldfish tryed to eat him if you can believe that), that yes their fins can grow back if the damage isn't too bad. If it isn't too bad any living thing can adapt. But watch them closely. If it's in with other fish that's doing that take it out. If its a disease, you still need to take it out from other fish. I wasn't sure so I found these sites for you. Hope they help.
