Fish do not grow to the size of their environment! THat is an old wives tail, and it will grow quite big. (never listen to pet store workers advise, they don't always know what they are talking about.) When it gets too big for your tank you can always bring it back to a pet store and exchange it.
What concerns me about your tank is the combination of fish you have. Your betta and Shark need warmer water 75° F. While your goldies prefer 65°-70° water. Also goldies grow quite big and usually one goldie needs at least 5-10 gallons of water.
Your betta may also become stressed as your goldfish will grow flowing fins and your betta will think they are other bettas and try to fight and possibly kill them.
I think a tank revamp is in order, email me if you have more questions

I hate this myth! It's true a fishes growth can be stunted by being in a smaller tank.... but any fish that is suppose to get big will do so. He will sooon out grow your tank. Tell the guy at the fish store he is an idiot. A goldfish would outgrow a 5 gallon tank. You also have too many fish in your tank. Are they goldfish? Or just fish that are gold?

well in a tank that small, i would return everything but the betta until you can get a bigger tank!!
goldfish and tropical fish shouldn't be mixed for a variety of reasons (waste, ammonia, nipping, temperature differences). and baby goldfish need 10 US gallons EACH with view to giving them about 20 US gallons EACH once they get to 4-5" long.
i have a betta who has a 5 gallon to himself and loves it. keep it that way.
in your small tank, your catfish will get stressed out and die, from either the cramped conditions, or ammonia poisoning from the goldfish, before he even has a chance to grow stunted and deformed from being in a tank that's FAR too small.
sorry to sound so negative, but I think whats best is to return ALL the goldfish AND the shark catfish, leave the betta in the 5 gallon.
if you really want the shark catfish you will need a tank minimum of 75 US gallons.

allyalex is 100% correct I have had many people at are local pet store that did not know what they were taking about! I have many fish tanks and I have some fish that are larger then the size there suppose to get!
But to answer your question,
YOUR Fish can get up to 10 inches and they recommend a tank the size of 75gallons!!!!!!
yes he will still get big, in fact the larger your fish get the more they will get stressed, so you will loose fish.....
if any more help is needed please feel free to contact me!

it really is kinda both... it really is called a silver tipped shark because of it really is body...it has more advantageous of a dermis than scales...and it kinda feels like a shark... even if it really is a form of catfish.... they could definitely upward push as a lot as a foot lengthy and do more advantageous powerful in a collection of atleast 3, so in case you in person-friendly words have one and it really is in a small tank, you want to evaluate upgrading to a more advantageous tank (a fifty 5 or seventy 5 is nice) and getting some more advantageous... EDIT: it really is no longer a colombian shark...they are different fish, they have a similar person-friendly theory yet are different fish...in case you seem on the region given on the answer below me, the colombian shark has a darker, tanner body, even as the silver tipped is silver with darkish fins and gentle tipps... wish this facilitates...strong success!!!!

I HAVE TWO SHARK FISH THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BIGGER,
I WENT FROM A 10GAL TO A 20GAL IN ONE YEAR, NOW BECAUSE OF THEM I HAVE TO UPGRADE AGAIN. IF YOU ARE NOT ATTACHED TO HIM GET RID OF HIM NOW.
THE GOLDFISH SHOULD NOT BE IN THE SAME TANK AS YOUR TROPICAL FISH, YOUR GOLD FISH PUT OUT TO MUCH WAST PRODUCTS AND THEY WILL GET VERY VERY BIG
FOR A 5GAL TANK. THE PET SHOP SOLD YOU ALL THE WRONG FISH. GOOD LUCK SHARI
