I live in a mild climate where it freezes once in a while, and the sun shines daily. Someone told me to not feed them as much is the winter. Is this true?

Just found out my guppy is a girl since she got pregnant. Her name used to be Nemo because she is orange yellow and red, but that just doesn't seem to fit anymore. Any suggestions??

My daughter won this little goldfish in a bag about 7 yrs ago...really...and it is still with us..it body is about 4 inches long not including its huge fins..we named hin JAWS because he eats every other fish we tried to put with him...so he has lived alone for the last 5 yrs in his own tank(oh_one fish did put up a good fight because it bit one of JAW"s side fins off) , so sometimes he swims in circles..but he's very healthy - has a few grey scales ...i was just wondering if this is an unusually long lived fishy?

I have had my goldfish for 5 weeks, the past few days she has slowed down, and rarely swims around. I have noticed a red mark on one side of its body, it looks sore but I'm not sure whats wrong. I think it is missing a fin on that side. whats wrong?

What type of fish are safe to have in the tank with baby fish. We have about 20 convict babies, the tank looks really boring, so we wanted to add some color, but my roommate says most adult fish will eat the babies.

I want to have a pet of my own. I'm looking for something that generally lives in a tank or aquarium. I want something that does not require a TON of attention or detail, just something I can feed on a daily basis and clean once or twice a week. I also would like to have something that live in water but I don't want to be in the norm and have fish. I was looking for something more along the lines of like GHOST SHRIMP or some sort of crab maybe? Any ideas? Thanks for the input....

Can a fish tank be reused if the fish that occupied it before had a fungus or ick or some other fish related problem? Im asking because a friend of mine had a fish that just died and she wants to reuse her tank , filter, and heater thats already in there for a new fish she will get in the future...and she doesnt want to have to rebuy a whole system.. i dont exactly remember what illness the fish had...but i will update as soon as i get more info..

I just got a black ghost knife, and in the tank he was put into there is a large fake tree root type decoration (and I mean large). It has a bunch of holes and is completely hollow, but when I was cleaning it I noticed that inside it's sort of rough and bumpy, not a very good place for fish to be. Well, being an electric fish he had to feel his way around as he explored his new home, and pretty quickly he slipped into the hollow tree roots and vanished. I tried looking in there with a flashlight, but saw nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think since he can't see, he'll get lost or something and die? I'm worried about it, since I know they can't see too well so he wouldn't be able to see the light outside of the log. Would his electric sensory system allow him to navigate out of there?

I don't think it's even been an hour since he's been in there.
