My daughter won this little goldfish in a bag about 7 yrs ago...really...and it is still with us..it body is about 4 inches long not including its huge fins..we named hin JAWS because he eats every other fish we tried to put with him...so he has lived alone for the last 5 yrs in his own tank(oh_one fish did put up a good fight because it bit one of JAW"s side fins off) , so sometimes he swims in circles..but he's very healthy - has a few grey scales ...i was just wondering if this is an unusually long lived fishy?

Those fair fish can be quite hearty. We had one that lived five years. Pretty good considering he had to be thawed out when he was about three after the heater in our house broke and tank froze during the middle of winter.

The fancies on an identical time as they have the means to stay as long as their long-bodied cousins, do often have extra genetic subject concerns at later a while, so approximately 2 an prolonged time is a top age for them, yet 30 isn't unreasonable and is of the top decrease for goldfish specifically (some have lived slightly previous 30 years old relatively). the undemanding existence expectancy is approximately 15-2 an prolonged time. At one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old, the fish replaced into no longer even an grownup yet. they do no longer often attain adulthood till approximately 2 years old.

I have heard of fish living for more than 40 years and growing upto more than 12 inches long (not including tail). As long as there is proper care, and bigger tank space for the goldfish to grow. Hope that helps!

yes you are very lucky to have such a long lived goldfish. My oldest goldfish only lived 6 years. I've never heard of fish with grey scales though!

Goldfish should live for 20-25 years. Most though never reach that age due to improper care.
