The specice of the fish responsible for Steve Irwin's death is called Stingray. The fish is normally docile and very rare cases of human attact exist. It has a long tail with sharp end. The Stingray uses it to save itself from the attack of other fishes.
It stung its tail directly into the heart of Steve, which caused instant death of the great animal lover and adventurist.

The fish that killed Australian croc hunter and conservationist, Steve Irwin, is Sting Ray. Generally, this specie of fish are not so dangerous and rarely has it happened that they have been cause of a person's death. These fish have a barb right at the start of their tails, which are pointed and poisonous and are quite capable of killing somebody. When these creatures are kept in aquaria for people to pet, their barbs are removed. It is said that Irwin provoked these things and as defense, they used their barbs to save themselves, causing his death.

Sting ray.
Barb in the chest.
A rare ocurrance, but not completely surprising, considering the guy's public death-wish. It was just a matter of time.
